Remote controls and sellotape

OK, I finally realised something last night, these two things are inextricably linked. Who doesn't have at least one remote control in the house with the battery compartment lid held on with sellotape?

I reckon the manufacturers all buy into a stock of especially breakable plastic for the lids

The breakable ones are all mostly sold to hotel chains. Along with spider legs.

Yep.
And the sellotape goes all curly and manky too. I assume it is a build up of man sweat from the chief channel-hopper in the household.

I think it's less a case of them using cr@p plastic and more a case of me footering about with the cover until it's broke!!

Yep most of mine are broke apart from the one on my Panasonic DVD Surround system which has a nice hinged arrangement for the battery section.

I have a remote control which was designed to be powered by two tiny, expensive, short-lived button cells (FFS). So now it has two bits of wire soldered onto the battery contacts connecting them to two AA cells strapped onto the outside with insulating tape.

Yep - gaffer tape on one of mine.

It was fine until several years of being dropped on the wooden flooring took it's toll.

Not saying who is responsible, but it was in pristine condition when I was a bachelor, but since I became a step-dad.....

Don't know why, but I'd happily spend an hour looking for the TV remote, rather than 5 seconds by walking to the TV and changing the channels manually!

Miraculously mine are all intact, despite a number of pets/kids doing their best to spoil my entertainment.

It's only a matter of time though I'm sure before I'll be in "that" kitchen drawer.
