CLK55 AMG - Talk to me!

Went to look at a W209 CLK55 AMG yesterday, and couldn't fall in love with it, I think down to the colour, Cubanite Silver...beige.

We've been looking for a bit at S4 convertibles, but they all seem to need £1000+/- spending on them immediately, and so did this CLK.

We have considered M3 also, but they are too drug dealer for me.

Really like the look and bullet proof appeal of the CLK55, either as coupe or cabriolet. What's people's opinions on them on here, particularly convertible owners.

Also any inspiration out there for something else? We basically want a treat, for weekend use.

Personally, having previously owned a CLK 500, I like CLK 55s. Don't know about S4s but an RS4 would be much better than a 55 but then the price differential would reflect this. Also, the 55 probably not as sharp a drive as an M3, but then it wouldn't have the M3 image problem.

CLK's with AMG kit still look smart, even 5 years after they stopped selling them new, especially if the alloys aren't the first generation that went with the model. My ownership experience with the CLK and now an AMG has been excellent. Touch wood, neither have given any trouble and specialist servicing is not expensive.

In my opinion, the CLK 55 AMG convertible, if you can find a good one, will depreciate slowly and offer good VFM. I don't see an S4 being a future classic, it'll just become an old car.

Thanks Kevin, just missed out on what looked a stinking CLK55 AMG Convertible, had to go away on holiday at 5am the morning after I saw the advert, only saw the ad at 8pm and it was 2 hours away...should've gone!
