Thumping noise while driving

Hoping someone with more experience might have some ideas,I bought ford capri 2.0 laser a while back and since that day it's had what i can best describe as a constant thump while driving, but only under load it stops on overrun and starts again when i apply the throttle.
It sounds like it's coming from the back end, the prop is off and their is a tiny amount of play in the uvj where it meets the diff, other joints seem fine in comparison. The rubber mounting was the 1st thing i replaced it's made no difference, the centre bearing seemed fine too.
I was thinking diff, and their did seem to be a clunk/vibration when i turned the prop by hand before i removed it but i don't know much about diff's tbh and everything i've read suggests that diffs whine and howl when worn as oppose to knock and clunk, or certainly wouldn't have the driven few hundred miles it's done if it were that bad.
So, could this fraction of play in the uj be the cause, a knackered bearing in the diff, or could this maybe actually be a gearbox fault??
Cars up on stands while i have a poke about, and debate taking the back axle off.

I think you're looking in the right places. Worn engine, gearbox and diff mounts can allow these assemblie to 'wind up' under power which can bring your propshaft within striking range of the transmission tunnel. Check also your guibo / drive dougnut, drive shafts and subframe mounts. Also don't discount tyres, they can be responsible for all manner of odd noises due to internal defects.
There's no room because of the enormous sub.
