When does it sing?
Discussion
I've owned my current watch (Snoopy Speedy) for the last 10 years or so and wear it pretty much every day. I've been looking to buy something to accompany it but everything else I try on, however nice, never really sings to me.
I suspect that much of this is due to familiarity - my wrist just doesn't look right unless it's sporting my Speedy, which is a problem as it's hampering my ability to part with £000's. I've been looking at all sorts, many of which I really like (Explorers, Yacht Masters, Portuguese, Master Controls...etc) but they never sing...
How do you all decide on what to buy? Do you hold out for the one that sings, or buy what you like and hope that it grows?

If the watch doesn't sing to you, why buy it?
What's wrong with sticking to your Speedy?
I was just curious how other people felt when they pulled the trigger on something new. For me, it's not so much that I don't like what I'm trying on, just that I'm so familiar with what I have that anything else just looks odd on my wrist - perhaps the Speedy was the same when I first got it, but 10 years ago is too long to remember. What's wrong with sticking to your Speedy?
I've just relocated to Geneva with work so I'm in the land of watches and keen to get something new to reward myself, plus the walk to work, past the Rolex, JLC and IWC stores makes for mighty temptation! I think the thing I loved about my Snoopy Speedy was the story, the case back and the sub-dial, it's just so very different. Perhaps I just need to find something else with similar qualities...
Don't feel that you must treat yourself OP, else you may end up making a rash decision. Take your time, walk a different way to work for a while and enjoy the fact that you're very happy with what you have - there are probably a good few of us here that sometimes wish we could live with just one watch, or have considered consolidating the collection. If you haven't already then start to research your options, read about brand histories and inform yourself, I think that it's a much more satisfying experience when you have some idea as to what you're buying as apposed to just choosing by aesthetics, not that anyone would wear something they thought to be ugly.
Most of my purchases have been pre-owned and many of those I've never even seen in the metal beforehand let alone tried on. I've been fortunate in that there have been only a handful of duff choices and I've been able to pass them on at minimal loss, thankfully. As to "when does a watch sing?", well I'd describe it as a purely positive emotive response to having a particular time piece on the wrist, it's a heart thing dictating how you feel and not what you think, if you see what I mean.

I don't think it's been released yet, but the SS version of this is getting me rather interested: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/jaeger-lecoultre-geoph...
