Chimaera on Ebay...
Discussion
From the description, it looks like he will accept less than £10K for it as he says he will include the plate if bidding exceeds £10K.
Looks a nice example...headlight conversions gives me a few doubts though as if you look closely it has the facelift front end, but is only a 1996 model...has it had a front end smack and had the whole front end replaced and the light conversiona done at the same time????

Saw this one earlier and thought exactly the same. Currently going for 6k which if clean is a major bargain. I e-mailed him this morning asking whether it had been smacked, though must admit I didn't spot the facelifted front, and also to ask about the history etc. E-bay rules state if anything he describes differs from the actual car then the winner is no longer obliged to buy it. Hence I've asked him as many annot=ying questions as possible to use as get out clauses should the car not be up to scratch.
Mine has a facelift front end but an old style rear. Rob Ingleby assured me this was not evidence of a front end replacement. Mine's an October model.
This one has a rubber rear bumper though, whereas mine is colour coded. Is this suspicious?

Just had this from the seller, strange how she's not mentioned the damage in the actual auction description;
[quote]hi tony, the tvr did have light damage to the front back in january 2000,the front of the car could have been repaired, but the owner took the oppertunity to have the front end conversion. i have been intouch with tvr, and am arranging to collect all reports on the repair my reason for selling the car is that we are a three person family, and as much as i would love to keep it the nagging other half wont allow it.

The more and more I look at this the more little "quirks" I notice
1) Facelift front
2) Old style rear
3) Door openers on rear arch (as apposed to wing mirrors)
4) Old style dash (black buttons and levers but with added stick on ally bits.)
5) New style seats (more bucketed than my old 95 models)...also a different colour...more unusual rather than strange I guess though
6) Later bootlid (as mentioned by chimyellow, not sure what is different here, didn;t know they changed in any way)
A real mish mash of older and later models...and topped off by the seller not stating in the ad that it has been in a "little" bump.
I'm curious has to how "little" that bump was.

Looks great to me
how many chims out there do you think *haven't* had bodywork or other issues .. engine changes, gearbox changes .. many cars were repainted at dealers before the first owner even took delivery such was the shocking paint from TVR .. do they have to mention that in the adverts?
So it's had a front end conversion .. would it matter if it was on a cerbera? nope .. it'd be a positive plus selling point and no-one would question it, just assumed the owner liked the later front.
The car in the advert *may* have been in a bump, but at this price who the eff cares?
looks a nice car for a bargain price, someone with a bit of brains will quite likely have a good car for peanuts here.

I agree with you on most of these points, I like the light conversion a lot and I suppose after a bump would be the perfect time to upgrade. The only issue I have is trying to ascertain exatcly how much of a bump it has had and what caused it. Awaiting a further response from the seller and tis definitely on my watch list should a satisfactory response be received.

Definitely. If it were just bodywork that had replaced then great...wouldn't bother me in the slightest, even if it were listed as a Cat C or D as long as the price reflected this and the work was done properly. It does look like a nice car and if I were in the market I would be keeping a very close eye on it.
It just always sends alarm bells ringing if the seller knows it has been in a ding but keeps quiet about it.
I know the law only states that you must say if it has been in a crash ONLY if the buyer asks. There is no legal requirement to say it in the advert.
If it goes for under £10K, someone will get a real bargain regardless.
