I've had an engine failure on my 3.4, was looking into replacement engine and the company that was selling the 3.4 also have a 3.6 complete and driving, so I'm tempted into doing the conversion.

Has anyone done this conversion? I have access to all the parts in the 3.6 car for the swap, ecus, keys and barrel, clocks, complete loom and engine etc

Dare I say it I'm not sure there's a lot of point performance wise? I imagine it would be more hassle than it's worth....

We are doing a 3.7 conversion from the 3.4 at the moment with SVP at Droitwich. Worth giving them a call.

thanks for the replies, I'm not looking to upgrade for the the performance gain but more the reliability, I've spoke to many porsche specialist about having my engine rebuilt and with a cracked head finding a matched pair for replacement thats complete with cam caps has been an impossible task, I could take the risk and use my old cam caps/rockers and have them skimmed and the line bored to the new heads but this is problematic from what i've been told with no guarantee with the result.

Options I'm left with is replacement 3.4 engine and straight forward swap, or strip the entire interior and fit the new loom and instrument cluster thats the canbus hub and later 7.8 DME, HVAC, alarm ecu, ignition with chip reader and keys etc.... Granted theres more work in the wiring side, but as an car interior and audio expert by trade this isn't daunting and I would consider the easy bit and the engine offering is straight forward, the cost difference is marginal hence me considering the 3.6 conversion.

All the experts I spoke to recommend the 3.6 over the 3.4 for reliably and the ims bearing isn't an issue as I will be replacing with the LN engineering upgraded version.

Maybe stating the obvious here, but: broken engine + owner wanting more displacement = Autofarm (They do a 3.4 to 3.7 conversion)
