Notifying DVLA about scrapping a car

After reading various horror stories about DVLA cock-ups I was looking for some advice about a car I've just scrapped.

I couldn't find the V5 so I've sent DVLA a letter with the following info (as suggested by an advice e-mail I received from them):

• Vehicle registration number
• Make/model of the vehicle
• Exact date of transfer/scrapping and the
• Name/address of the motor trader/scrap dealer
• Certificate of Destruction number

Letter was sent special delivery and I have a name and signature of the person who signed for it.

Is there anything I've missed / anything else I need to do? As far as I can tell from various searches of the DVLA site / other websites there shouldn't be anything else, but given the reputation of our friends in Swansea for getting things wrong and then issuing fines I want to make absolutely sure I've got all the i's dotted and the t's crossed.

I sent a letter last year, as I didn't have a destruction notice.

I simply stated the shell had been disposed off, listed the details of the car, and got an acknowledgement a month or so later.

Wait for acknowledgement and chase if you haven't had it within four to six weeks.

Check http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk to see if it's still on there?

Gone already, they only got the letter this morning!
