Just a quick note to say that as of today, im a gtechniq approved detailer.

Ive never been one for being approved with anyone, but there is a new super coating out now called crystal serum and its only available through the approved network and to be honest its on a whole new level to everything else, so I decided to be approved. plus I think that in the not so distant future, everything else will fade away and gtechniq will be the only product worth having.

And, not forgetting that the coatings will soon be coming with a warranty or 3-5 year (with serum), so should you ever need any bodywork, the insurance company will pay for it to be re-applied to the car.

Had mine Gtechniq coated during my last detail. I use Paul Harrison at Hampshire detailing in Petersfield who is also a certified Gtechniq approved detailer. He also has a chap on site who applies 'Ventureshield' as soon as the detailing is done so it limits the chance of any dust or particles getting on to the paintwork before the film is applied.

Cool. It is the way forward. However, venture shield is not. They need to swap to a self healing film, but that's for another thread.

Looking forward to a coating that can also withstand the car being left outside. They are, after all, cars, designed to be used outside biggrin

Like most things, you get what you pay for and this is no different. It's £200 to apply it to the car, as opposed to the £100 I charge for a normal sealant. Though to be fair, at £100, it was close to losing money.

As for durability, it way outlasts anything else and it genuinely darkens the paint and it stays that way for a very long time. My friends golf test mule has done 26k with it on and its like it's been applied yesterday. It can also be used on the wheels too.

The car must be completely dry and free from any drips etc for the first few hours after putting it ok. So it's more suited to 2 day details, but I could probably get away with it on a one day enhancement. You have to be careful and cautious with it, as once it's on, the only way its coming off is sanding it off! It's pretty much the best thing you can put on your car.

I've had it applied to mine 18 months ago and I'm having it 'topped up' next month.
About every 3 months I use the small bottle of spray £5 to help maintain the sealant.
I get a lot of comments on the shine of my black car people saying have you just polished it, nope just cleaned it.
It's not as hard as I thought it would be you still have to take care when cleaning the car for swirls etc. if you suffer with OCD.
If you do use the spray C3 v2 I think it's called it must be warm a bh to dry and stop smearing when cold.
But a black car is a test for any sealant.
Well done to paddy you have to be approved to apply this treatment.
Cheers

Paul, what you have on your car will be c1 and maybe exo too. Serum hasn't been out that long.

Phil, as your bike would be a little training bike with stabilizers, I'll do it for free.

Tony, it's a case of who didn't I sleep with.

So how much would this cost to apply to a Honda S2000 ( berlina Black ) ? given that the only reason I'm asking is that Crystal Serum is only available too Pro-detailers .

As I'm an amateur my polishing skills are not as good as a pro so I'm assuming an enhancement would be required before application .

Never really understood sealants.

If there is a clear coat of good quality, well baked lacquer on the paintwork what more can a "sealant" achieve?

If the paint has imperfections, and you get it polished (paint corrected) so you have an even surface (light reflects more evenly), I am sure what more you can achieve.

Happy to be convinced otherwise. smile

The sealant is there to protect the underlying clear coat. If the paint has no protection it can get scratched etc and it will be vulnerable to bird lime and the elements in general and will dull over time. At the end of the day, if you want your car looking good for longer, it needs to be protected.

How thick is the lacquer coat?

How thick is the sealant?

Even a car with a sealant will get scratched and subject to all the rest of the stuff.
