What is todays Vauxhall Omega alternative?

Years ago i bought a 5 year old omega for £2k. That was a £25k car new.

Is there a car like it today?

Still got to look towards large cars aiming at a premium sector without a premium badge.

I'd say Citroen C6 might offer a lot of luxury for not a lot. Not as cheap as £3k though.

£2k for a 5 yr old Omega? Wow, don't think you'd get anything like that now. Mondeos are still awful depreciators, so I'd look there. That sector of non premium family saloons are always bad. Renault Lagunas, Fiat Bravo American stuff - Chrysler Sebring, Chevrolet Cruze.

Big French cars have historically been masterclasses in depreciation, but they seem to have got better recently due to lower supply. I think that the Citroen C5 is now build to order and the C6 is no longer sold in the UK

For a big depreciator supply needs to exceed demand. It ideally needs to be something that is ordered new in large quantities, e.g. as company cars, but that private buyers don't really go for.

IMHO Vauxhall Insignia is a good fit. It's about 25K new in a decent trim level, and yet there are plenty of 5-year old models for around 4K.

An 8 going on 9 year old Jaguar S Type R (the 4.2 supercharged one) could be had for under £5k, they were in excess of £50k new.

One overtook me on the m74 other day. In a light blue, I think it looks better now than when it was released.

There were some real lemons of recent times that I don't think are still made anymore. Largely bought by OAPs thinking they were the dog's, these cars were just anonymous on the road and dropped their money like a bus off a cliff. Kia Magentis. Hyundai Sonata. Proton Gen 2. Suzuki XL-7. Renault Vel Satis. Toyota Camry. Honda Legend (not a bad car but still..)

A4 underpinnings, A4 convertible interior, and A4 engines but considerably cheaper. I can see why they're a great buy for those who don't go all narcissistic over badges. They're far more than 'the new Toledo'.

Not the biggest fan of Seats but must say the exeo looks quite good because of its simplicity as the design doesnt look overdone and quite reserved

Large saloons with big petrol engines; S class, 7 series, A8. Seem to drop tens of thousands in a few years. The petrol 6 series cars too

Out of date viewpoint. Magentis and Sonata are old old models now. Trying getting a cheap slightly used KIA or Hyundai now - the long warranties and the fact that they are no longer crap are keeping values high.

A lot of what is being said in this thread used to be true but the info is dating rapidly.

We took in a facelift one, with decent miles; £3500, bargain.
