I'll keep this simple if I can
A friend has acquired a 911 Turbo SE Silver Rose Edition.
For those that do not know, the Silver Rose was a kind of 'throw everything at it' special edition 944 Turbo. Power increased to 250bhp, limited slip differential, MO30 suspension, M030 larger brakes as standard, Forged CS wheels, made in Stuttgart rather than Neckarsulm and without sunroof (which on a 944 is a very good thing!)
They came in a pale pink/gold/silver metallic type colour, with a pink deckchair cloth and leather interior.
He bought it because he has never had a 944 Turbo before and really fancied one. The car needs a bit of work, and he has already torn it down and replaced the sills, wings, and had proper metalwork repairs carried out on all the other suspect bits.
It is now almost ready for a bare metal respray and will be a cracking example when he has finished.
BUT... he absolutely hates the original Silver Rose colour scheme and interior. I too think it is utterly 'minging'.
He wants to do something a bit different/modern and paint it in a GT3 RS Charcoal grey colour with the same Red accents, complete with black interior and dash, half cage, bit of carbon, black alcantara bucket seats, and a few other things. Basically make it a 944 Turbo version of the GT3 RS in the looks department.
He already has both the Silver Rose interior and a complete Black leather interior with all black carpets etc.
The reason for the Poll is concern over the future saleability of such a car with a GT3 RS Charcoal and Red paint scheme and interior.
So what does PH think?
Put it back to being a Silver Rose despite it being so erm, 'unusual', and just learn to love that horrific Pink/s
t Brown interior?
Go for something a bit different and modern such as the GT3 RS look complete with half cage and track inspired alloys and other bits?
Go for something more sensible like a Gunmetal Grey or Silver with Black interior and original alloys?
Any other thoughts?

Proposed GT3 RS colour scheme:

Hi Tim,
I'd say go with the RS scheme but only if done properly. If he's going to paint it with a roller or something then it may not look as good.
Silver rose are rare but like you say they do exude a sort of washed out ghey colour.
I think it would look great with 17 inch cup 1s, cup mirrors and done in the grey/red RS scheme, with recaro SPGs etc. A sorted 944 will be viewed on its own merits. If it was a factory fresh 20,000 mile car then yep keep it standard but as it is I'd do what I wanted with it.
PS. I hope that rear wing is still looking good.

Assuming that he's planning to enjoy the car for a while and not just sell it on once completed, he should do with it whatever enhances his own enjoyment of it during his ownership. It may not appeal to the purists, but if it's done tastefully and executed well then I would think it will sell regardless when the time comes.
He should perhaps keep the original interior safe for the next owner if he swaps it out, but I don't see why he should go to all that effort to keep it looking original just for the sake of it if he doesn't like it that way.

I voted silver rose but having seen my cars you may discount that on virtue of my poor taste. I still regret not buying that cassis one with maroon & cream interior y'know.
You owned a Speed Yellow 993 and yet voted for Silver Rose... You are the ultimate juxtaposition Craig!

You never saw me DJ'in down at CC wearing my old mans wedding suit & some imported lumi pink Nike air rifts I take it then? Silver body with maroon interior-they'll all be doing it next year I'm telling you....
Original colour scheme is nasty, and the interior even worse. I understand the resale factor but let's be honest it's a 944, I can't imagine there is going to be that many people looking for one of these because it's the special edition. More likely when it comes time to resell the more modern look and better interior would make it more valuable. I certainly wouldn't buy it in that original colour scheme but I might be tempted by the modern look.
While that silver rose combo is hard on the eyes at first, it is individual, its period and original.
I think the GT3 RS scheme will look silly and boy racer ish. Its the wrong era, model etc.
Personally I'd keep the same and would enjoy its originality, but as another poster said further up, its his car and he should go with what he wants.

I can see this from both sides. Limited edition, should be preserved really. However it's such a nasty combo and it's never going to be worth massive amounts.
I wouldn't do the red wheels etc. I just thought it was about the colour of the GT3RS. I'd keep it looking stock but with a different colour interior combo.

Seems a shame to eliminate a special edition, however dubious the colour-scheme.
Agreed. Perhaps should have bought a different car?
Yes he is building it himself for himself to enjoy, but after a couple of years when he decides to move on to another project, he doesn't suddenly want to discover his car is unsellable due to whatever color combo he choses.
If he bought it cheap enough then it makes no odds any perceived value in it's rarity I guess then, it's just another barried 944 turbo s. Alright, maybe barried is the wrong description but you get my drift-if it makes him happy let him do with it what he wants
However, I think most will agree if he's doing it with an eye to getting some of his coin back-silver rose is the way to go, whenever I've see them for sake it's always at a premium.
