I've not got a D70

After the cost of the camera, there are little things like SB-800, 70-300, circular polariser and a remote control. Lets say about about £500 or so. ![]()
Well of course you can always settle on just the body plus one lens. And there's a built-in flash.
But then again I was totting up the contents of my camera bag and it came to £2,200
Better there than in a pension fund I suspect

Oooops, I forgot the Manfroto, Sekonic L-308, Peli 1400 case, Lowenpro Gadget Bag, 1 x 512 Cf card, 4gig Microdrive and 2 x 1gig CF cards

Martin.
Because thats not strictly true - I want a D70, I just can't afford one at the moment.
Or were you implying that the F70 is expensive? It may once have been, but they're not now - I paid around £100 each for the bodies and the lenses were £40-150 each.
I have still got my old Minolta X700 as well though - it takes beautifully sharp images, despite being 23years old!

Yes indeed. People tend to forget that lensmaking is not a new skill - Germany is famous for lenses from the first half of the 20th C, in fact one reason why they did so well at Jutland was that their optical rangefinders were better than ours! And think of the PR lenses used in WW2 - fantastic resolution.
It makes me chuckle when someone zooms into a photo from a digital compact until the pixels show and says 'look how sharp that is, much better than analogue!'

I was truly shocked - I used the camera the other day for some of those studio shots that I posted, and was amazed how sharp a £40 f2.8 50mm lens was. Manual focussing was a pain though, I kept pressing the button and expecting it to focus. I also kept getting my shot lined up perfectly, pressing the shutter and realising I hadn't advanced the frame! After that happened a few times I bolted a power winder on the bottom! It was good fun though, getting back to basics!
