Can't Find A Gear
Discussion
Hi Guys
Well I took the SX out for a little run today as a week today I was hoping to get the fuelling sorted after the dyno run at the BBWF showed it was over fuelling badly, but after only ten minutes into the run I had trouble finding the gears.... Anyway I found if I pressed the clutch pedal again it would slip into gear with no problem ! I have checked to see if there are any leaks but could find none and the fluid looks fine as well... The only thing that dose seem a little odd is the gear lever feels a little loose, if it is the fact that the linkage bushes are gone can these be done while the gearbox is in place ?? I need to try and find a solution to this by next Saturday otherwise I will have to cancel the mapping session
Any ideas Peeps ??

Any ideas Peeps ??Thanks guys taking on board all that's has been suggested so far ! The Gearbox was only rebuilt about 3 years ago and has only covered roughly 2000 miles in that time and the linkage bushes were replaced at the same time so would be surprised if it were those causing the problem...As you say Tony I think a good look at the whole system is needed....
I hope its not the spherical nylon bearing Howard all the stories I've read on that seem to lead to a lot of swearing

Yeah it felt like this when mine went at least the masters are pretty cheap - £12.50 for the LR type and quite easy to fit. Check the fluid level first though.
Also when they go they can start to leak inside the footwell where the pushrod goes through the boot, if you see this it's a telltale sign.

Yep an oily left foot is the tell tail sign. Also when they go they can start to leak inside the footwell where the pushrod goes through the boot, if you see this it's a telltale sign.
Mine needed everything it was a pig to get in gear
Bushes
Gearbox oil
New slave
(After you replace the slave the master will s
t itself....)Master (I used a kit and is still good, they don't always work but I was very carful to get it right) so far so good....
And the right fluid, I used castrol react performance dot 4
Do all that and you'll have a clutch worthy of an Aston Martin and not an Austin allegro....

Yeeeay !!! The SX is back and feels a dream to change gear now ! With out realising it must of been slowly getting worse although I didn't notice I guess because of a lack use or infrequent time behind the wheel.... But today http://www.mole-valley.co.uk/ handed the keys back to me with a smile and said take her for a drive and let us know what you think... Anyway long story short, gear selection is dream now, I then pop back to give them my thoughts to be meet with a comment " that's the best sounding Wedge we have heard and the over run is off the scale " !! They have true enthusiasm for all TVR's no matter what the model and the main thing is they promised the get the car done for the weekend as I have booked the SX in for a dyno session to sort the fuelling !
Hi guys it was both the Master & Slave cylinder weeping so both were changed for new items... Just for reference the guys at Mole Valley said the Master & Slave are the same as on the Griff & Chim ! All that was needed was to change the rods over for the ones that came off the Wedge...
Just need to get tomorrow out the way re the mapping then I will feel much happier !
