So I have been looking at an IWC Portofino but then had a look at the Baume and Mercier for a similar price and quite like it. Is there any difference in quality as I will be wearing it daily and hope to keep it for 20+ years. Is there a big difference in the price of servicing?

Quite a difference in style there, and I'd say the B&M would cost more to service due to the extra complications – before jumping on either, ascertain the current costs, to give you some idea of what you're letting yourself in for.

If it's a dressy style you're looking at, then I'd recommend taking a look at some pre-owned Glashutte Original:

Alternatively, I love the Omega De Ville, especially the Hour Vision, and in blue:

And I also highly rate Union Glashutte:

IWC for me. Quite like the b&m style but prefer the simple look of the portofino. Also think a moon phase for a daily is a bit too busy

I have had my Portofino for about three years now and use it as my work watch. I have been really pleased with it.

At the time of purchase I was looking at either the Omega DeVille Hour Vision or a variety of IWCs. I could not get my hands on the Omega and most of the IWCs were too big for my princess wrists so I ended up with the Portofino.

I prefer the BM and am looking at that exact one for my next watch. I like the date/day combo and the styling.

The IWC looks nice as well but more classic looking compared to the BM IMO.

I'd pick the IWC, too. Quite fancy one although an older one without the Roman numerals.

I actually prefer the B&M in this instance but love IWC watches.
