My Nissan 350Z, My second car at 18!

In a months time I will be 19 and will have my 1 years no claims bonus and will finally be able to get rid of my 1999 Saab 9-3 2.2 TID it has possibly been the best first car possible for me. I got it when I only worked 1 day a week, at £600 it was all I could afford, but buying something so cheap turned out to be the best decision I have made.

5 months into working on a one day a week contract I was putting my name down to do five days over time every week until a full time position came up, I applied and was successful! Throughout all of this I was spending only about 30% of my monthly earnings, the rest I was saving for something special.

Up until a week ago I would be constantly browsing auto trader looking at potential next cars and every week I would be onto a different car that I always said would be 'the one' but it never was.

My dad started taking me round a few garages, I saw this one garage that had a few cars I was interested in looking at. One of them being a Silver 2006 Nissan 350z with only 40,000 miles on the clock, once I went to see it in person I fell in love straight away, especially the noise from the Nismo exhaust it has fitted. (although I am not sure if it is a Nismo system as the back box is tiny and the noise it producing is some what deafening when you are directly behind.)

Only one issue I have... I cannot drive it for a month.

My parents are fully comp on it for 30 days up until my first years insurance is up, by that time I will be 19 and have my NCB which makes a big difference to my insurance. The cheapest I have been quoted it £1400 fully comp which makes me happy.

I should be kept busy though in the month that I have to wait as there are a few things that needs changing and a few things that are rather worrying me...

The Saab provided me with the cheapest years motoring that I could have asked for, only filling up once a month and never letting me down once, that combined with my saving means I can afford to buy and run such a car even at such a young age, a lot of people my age cannot believe I have a 3.5 litre V6 sports car. On the journey home from the garage the MPG was on 23 the whole time, not bad at all..

Also on the way home a bright yellow 350z was coming in the opposite direction in the Southampton area (not 100% sure exactly where we were as I was too excited) he proceeded to flash me about 3 times followed by a friendly wave, which I thought was great. My mum on the other hand thought it was incredibly sad.[url][url]

However, isn't £10k a bit expensive for one of these? + that gearknob looks worn for 40k!

Some car for 18 for sure !

But way overpriced, I paid less for a 57plate HR last year and that gearknob is indeed from a much higher mileage car

The gear knob condition did make me wonder if it really is such a low mileage car, the car is one owner from new... hmmmmmm.

I love the alloys although I do not like how the rear tyres are stretched (alloy sticks out further than the actual tyre) I know its the look some people go for but I am not too keen.

It went over to Ireland for a year! That explains the plate, but no it's not an import. I thought 10k was reasonable as similar mileage 350z's were going for roughly the same.

No way has that gearknob done 40k and seats look a bit tired as well if it was one owner it was probably clocked between MOTs...

Also a quick search reveals similar cars for about £7.5 - £8k so think you should have shopped around!

Either way though very well done for affording this at 18 just maybe look at a few more cars before committing in the future

Would certainly recommend you take the chance to do some advanced driving courses, if you can afford it.
It'll help bring down the insurance costs, and maybe some track driving with the car will help you gain an insight onto how it drives.

Would be on my shortlist of cars to consider next. But im 20 with nearly 3yrs no claims and ive not had any quotes cheaper than £1650 for these although I am surprised I got quoted anything that low tbh.

Fully comp nearly always seems to come out cheaper than third party quotes for performance cars at my age.

Insurance shocked me too, but it seems I have an extremely good post code area, played around with a few friends addresses to see if it made a difference and there quotes came out at £4000 - £5000.

10k would get you a HR 313 model.

This is one of the last pre facelifts with the DE engine.

Would be worth about 6.5-7k tops

Insurance has no apparent logic (though of course there is some mathematical logic). Flux wanted a grand fully comp on a £800 Volvo shed doing 5k a year with 350 excess. I'm 28 and have never had an accident or even a ticket. (Touch wood).

1400 for that is amazing. I guess because most 19 year olds are busy stuffing their 1.1 Peugeot 206's in to the nearest hedge.

I like the 350Z but what put me off was the interior quality. The knob issue is common. I test drove a few low mileage ones and most were badly worn.
