Hi all

Hope you are all enjoying your cars in this nice weather!
I'm hoping to pick your brains again! I have a 95 chimaera and when it's cold it doesn't idle properly, it's fine when you start it but as soon as you start driving it and come to a stop the revs bog down to 4 or 500 revs or sometimes less and stalls, it mainly seems to do this when coming to a stop and putting your foot on the clutch, it runs lovely when warm and idles perfectly, a couple of times over the last 100 miles it's cut out when hot after giving it a bit of stick down a dual carriageway and slowing up for a round about and on these occasions it has taken a few minutes and several attempts turning it over trying to restart it leaving me stranded on a roundabout until I've got it started again, I have replaced the idle stepper motor and plugs, leads, rotor arm and distributor cap, ignition coil and ignition module as it had a misfire which has been cured but still doesn't idle properly when cold, could this be a faulty idle motor or a road speed sensor? Anyone else had these symptoms?

Many thanks in advance :-)

what were the plugs like when you removed them?

The plugs were a bit black but don't think they were the correct plugs

Stock plugs were B7ECS. Most with standard engines would recommend you stick with 7 rated plugs.

Could be over fuelling or poor ignition. If you are confident you have a good spark then I'd check the sensor outputs with a rover gauge. Common failure is engine temp sensor. Idles ok at first but over-fuels once hot as ECU thinks car is still cold.

Thanks for the info, I have fitted the standard plugs that you have mentioned, I have just read on an old thread that this could be a ecu water temperature sensor as you just suggested, I have ordered one of these and also a fuel temperature sensor so fingers crossed this will sort it out, many thanks for your help 👍

Mine did this for 18 months. The engine earth strap was almost through and cured it about 80%.
