possible job in wimborne and a move to poole or dorchester
Discussion
Hi everyone
I currently live in Portsmouth but a job has come up in wimborne that I really want. I'm a 22 year old graduate, just done two ski seasons so I'm a bit worried wimborne may be a little too quiet and chilled for me.
is there anywhere you'd recommend me taking a look at? I have a car so commuting is not a problem. I also have a few friends in Weymouth so Bournemouth might be a little far from them (as i want to be as near to them as possible). I've been considering poole and dorchester so would like to know what they're like to live in as a young professional and also what the commute to wimborne is really like.
Thank you!

Bournemouth and Poole should be lively enough for you, though be warned: the commute out of Poole to Wimborne is not as good as you might think.
From a commute point of view, living somewhere you could get to the Wessex Way easily would be the best journey if you want to live in a town area.
In theory Weymouth wouldn't be the worst commute but you'd get tired of Friday PM commutes pretty quickly.

Wimborne is a nice place to live. Plenty of pubs!!!
This! But it's not what it used to be. Poole would be a good move plenty of things to do see and easy commute to Wimborne.
Certain parts of bournemouth wouldn't be too horrific a commute. You really don't want to think about Weymouth that would be an hour each way minimum. I'm in Ferndown which is nice, but not too much for younger people

I'd go for Poole. Wimborne is an easy commute once you become a yokel and find the back roads.Poole would be a good move plenty of things to do see and easy commute to Wimborne.

As Nick says, its a good hour, when there is no tourists. Add tourists and it can be 2! Plus its full of weirdo's, and buses full of odd ladies down for a day trip. The titty bar is crap too - the only one in the UK were your likely to see your gran. Couple that with the height of excitement when the hotels bus in old ladies to do Christmas in a week, you get the picture.
Im in Poole, but then i practically an old fart at 29!
If I were you I would come and spend a weekend down here and have a good look round, try a few runs etc
Like anywhere once you are a local you will find all the short cuts and get to learn the busy times on the different roads
Poole, Bournemouth and Wimborne are all within spitting distance of each other and so depending on where work is actually located you are not really looking a massive commuting time etc.
If you are looking at the commute to Weymouth then living in any of the three above is not really going to make a huge difference in the drive to see your mates etc
Wimborne is not the busiest of places but its got some nice pubs and restaurants and Poole and Bournemouth have got everything covered so whatever your missing in Wimborne you can get there
If your not buying a place then why not find a place to rent for 6 months then move if needed later

We live in Wimborne, but what we like it for might not be what you are looking for. Would it have been my chosen destination at age 22? Possibly not. But at age 34 with couple of kids at good local schools and countryside on the doorstep for the dog, it suits us. It's not cheap to buy or rent but there are no particularly bad areas, good pubs/cafés/restaurants and within 1/2 hour of Bournemouth / Poole and the coast.
Colehill is just residential really but slightly better value housing than Wimborne itself and there is also better value in surrounding areas which are sometimes loosely described as 'Wimborne' (Merley, Corfe Mullen, Lytchett, Ferndown).
My office is in central Wimborne and there are people that commute in from as far as Weymouth, Portesham, Salisbury and Southampton. Whilst these are all 45 mins+ they are not having to go into busy traffic like you get in rush hour in and around Poole/Bournemouth and all have reasonably clear commutes, since Wimborne is on the upper edge of the conurbation with good links to A31.
Depends what you want really. If you're ideal night out is a nice meal and good pub it shouldn't be too bad but if you're looking for clubs, younger crowd, etc then Bournemouth/Poole would be a better bet.

I commute in from near Sherborne.Sure, it takes ~50 minutes but it is congestion free. From my experiences I'd rather do that than commute out from Poole or north Bournemouth, as the traffic is very unpredictable.
