Dad's insurance due......query
Discussion
Might be in the wrong section but anyway....
Dad's insurance due on 3.7.14, he's already had his renewal notice and price through.
However last Thursday he had a bump. His fault and repairs needed to both vehicles.
He went straight to his brokers and told them, whereupon they stated his renewal will double even though he has 9+ yrs NCB,protected.
Thing is I was going to get alternative quotes for him anyway because his brokers are a rip off. But how do we fill in the info online? I put he's had a claim but am unable to say how much for, or if settled because it's only just happened.
My thinking is,it should impact his renewal next year once the facts are fully established. So does it mean this year we just don't mention it. There's no way all will be resolved by 3.7.14 .
Any ideas?

Declare it. Question is usually "have you had any accidents, claims..." etc. He's had an accident, so needs to declare it.
Time to phone current insurance and see how it affects NCD, then phone for new quotes will full information. Anything else could land him in hot water should he have another incident.

People think protecting your NCB means your insurance won't go up, it just protects the discount.
Very simplified example
No accident £500 insurance -50% NCB = cost of £250
After accident £1000 insurance -50% NCB = cost of £500.
Ready to be called an idiot if I'm completely wrong

Hi,
Most online quote search engines have an option for "Outstanding" claims, and some even have a box on the amount for "Amount unknown".
Other than that, if you contact the current insurer they will have whats called a "Reserve amount" for the claim.
You will need to notify all insurers of the claim, no matter what.
If you would like a call back for a quote then by all means send me a DM
Cheers
