What weekend car for 20k

Hi guys,
Looking to spend up to 20k on a evening / weekend car. So far thinking of Audi TTS, and Z4M coupe. Any others worth considering?

Both rather dull, practical cars for weekend use aren't they? How about a Caterham.

This is all you need.

If you want a grunty V8 choose from a Chimaera or a Griffith

If you want a banshee of an inline 6, look at a Tamora or a Tuscan.

Alternatively buy a true legend and get a Cerb that comes in both V8 and inline 6 flavours.

You will realise what a weekend car is with any of these over a TT/Z4 etc.

For £20,000 I'd have something comfortable and understated for taking the mrs places, and something 2 wheeled for fun and performance.

Tvr's to unreliable
Elise's no good in winter and no where for luggage
Cayman S 20k only gets you a generation 1 and there's to much worry regarding bore scoring issues with the gen1's. Would consider one but only if it came with a Porsche warranty, which they seem to be few and far between....
Car needs to be used in the winter as much in the summer and cover a 40 mile road trip most evenings

I think that this pre-conception is mostly derived from the speed six engine which TVR developed in house. However, for 20k you will be able to pick up a speed six engined car with all the issues sorted and a 3/5 year warranty to cover the work. (I can't remember the specifics of the warranty)
You would also be able to pick up a well sorted RV8 powers car (Griff/Chim) which are tried and tested and have no reliability issues.

I've had my car for a year now and haven't broke down/been left on the side of the road/had to get towed or do anything outside of normal maintenance. These are the comments that usually get thrown at me from people that have never owned a TVR

What I have had is a year of enjoyment and smiles, both winter and summer driving. I say don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

This. TVR. Several well respected Specialists give 1/2yr mechanical warranties on them for added peace of mind.

Perhaps you should stay away from them and buy a nice 'reliable' Porsche with mathcing sunglasses

The Cayman S is the only non-classic model that counts at the 20k weekend price range. It has speed(ish), looks(ish), reliability(ish), handling and badge cred.

Am in the same quandry.

Had my hear set on a Cayman S but the more I research the more it seems bore scoring is an inevitable eventuality.
