Car ID help please

I'm not often stumped but just saw something and don't know what it was.
Small sports car on a J suffix.
It looked very similar, almost identical to a Lotus Elan but was different in a few ways.
Firstly it was a coupe. It could have been a removable hard top I guess.
Secondly the rear lights were individual circular units, not the normal Lotus Elan rear clusters.
Thirdly it had quite a colourful badge.
It was a very bright luminous green and looked superb.
Any ideas?

Ladder frame chassis, herald or Vitesse front suspension, Imp engine/transaxle and Allegro door handles. What's not to like? A number raced very successfully in their day and there are still a good few of them doing so now. I love Imp based stuff!

Hi Not quite ladder frame chassis, more like a "pan" with front turrets, and the rear was flat folded steel sheet + part of an Imp subframe/crossmember,Ladder frame chassis, herald or Vitesse front suspension, Imp engine/transaxle and Allegro door handles. What's not to like? A number raced very successfully in their day and there are still a good few of them doing so now. I love Imp based stuff!
Built about a dozen for Spadge Hopkins about 15 years ago !!!!

I spoke to Spadge a few times at around the same time, he was trying to buy JK bits from me. Last I heard he had abandoned his G15 based business, the name of which I can't recall, I thought he was going to carve himself a nice little business, shame it didn't work out, nice guy, I hope he has found a new niche.Built about a dozen for Spadge Hopkins about 15 years ago !!!!
