Colleague thought his car was on fire.

Someone I work with didn't appear in the office on Friday. Apparently, his car had set on fire and he couldn't come in. RAC had been out and couldn't see the source of the fire (was obviously a big one if fire and rescue weren't there).

He has come back today with an explanation. The DPF was on a regen cycle and he had smoke coming out of the engine bay.




Just shows the sort of people I have to work with at the moment.

Honestly, if I had smoke coming out if my car engine I'd call the RAC or a mechanic.

Car engines should not have smoke coming out of them.

As above, smoke coming out of anywhere other than the exhaust means something is wrong!

I do pity you having to work with someone who drives a diesel, though.

Unfortunately, my colleague isn't the sort of person to say a story how it is. That's why I added the laugh icon.

If he did indeed have smoke coming out of the engine, isn't this a sign that something is amiss even if it is a regen cycle?

He seems convinced everything is ok now.

Yes, but it isn't just a diesel. It's the fastest and best Ford diesel around.

True. I wouldn't automatically think it must be the DPF cleaning itself.

Oil leak's left the exhaust covered in gunk, which the raised temperatures of the regen cycle have started to burn off?
