Not sure if this should be in SP&L but it seems right to put it in here. Mods feel free to move if need be.

I finally got round to sorting out my Elise after it being sorn'd last year. In its first outing in 9 months I hit a pot hole. The Elise usually feels like its falling apart if you run over a drain cover so its kind of hard to judge if it was a big pothole or a small one. About 10 mins into the drive the car felt really weird going round left handers so I pulled up to have a look. The near side rear suspension thingy is pissing fluid out and there is a chunk missing out of the rear clam shell. Arse! On the plus side it does give me an excuse to get some Nitrons put on it

Now I am not 100% sure if the rear suspension was damaged by the pothole, it could just have been the fact the car was laid up for so long that the seal perished but the damage to shell must have been caused by it. Part of me wants to put a claim in for the damage but I get the feeling it would be a waste of time.

So what to do? Anyone successfully claimed for pot hole damage?

Good luck with it - I reported a bloody huge one I went down at 50 mph on the down side of a small crest whilst trying to avoid one on the rise before it. Plod had reported it as dangerous earlier that day and I ended up having to take a day off work to get the sodding alloy straightened and suspension checked over so I could travel to my client. Plod reported it a second time that week and only after a week was it filled in. That length of time for something so f'ng dangerous was within the local Council's own definition of what is acceptable.

Put your claim in with pictures and location but expect rules to be made up to suit their case for not covering the damage.

I've now taking it upon myself to report any defects I see in the roads immediately around where I live, just to get something back!
