Ferrari reveals one-off F12 TRS

Plain F12 a bit lacking for one customer, 'extreme sports barchetta' the result

Taking classic sports cars as inspiration for something new is always risky. It could be a beautiful homage or it could be an ugly pastiche. We'd like to wager the Ferrari F12 TRS is most definitely the former.

TRS pays homage to '57 250 TR

Billed as a 'modern, innovative take' on the spirit of the 1957 250 Testa Rossa (hence the name), the TRS most obviously deviates from the F12 Berlinetta in its lack of roof. The low wraparound screen further exaggerates the visual drama, and Ferrari is keen to point out the 'light and pared back' cabin without showing any images. Just visible in the supplied pic are the 'fuselage fairings' that run from the headrests into a rear spoiler. It never seemed the F12 lacked any visual excitement before this, did it?

Under the transparent engine cover the TRS is identical to an F12, so no special upgrade to the LaFerrari-spec V12. The very lucky customer will have to bimble along with 740hp like every other F12 buyer.

The F12 TRS made its debut at the Ferrari Cavalcade, perhaps the best title for a one-make gathering ever devised. Of course there isn't a price, but kudos to the customer and Ferrari for creating it. Wonder if another wealthy fan could do an F12 Challenge?

(Imho) Ferrari is absolutely rubbish at doing these one of coach builds.
Leave it to the professionals I'd say.

It's certainly got something - apparently costing $4.5M it probably should have (that's 12 F12s or 4 LaF's!!)

The Focus ST wheels are a nice touch - the bonnet looks st - otherwise it's lovely (and the back is nicer again!)

I'd much prefer the Jag though. WHY didn't they build it?!!

I do love an aeroscreen on a car. But that one looks a bit too big/tall to my eyes. Here's something similar they made years ago.

Not my cup of tea personally - I'm not really a Ferrari chap anyway.

Obviously I wouldn't say no if someone have me one, and I do admire them, but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Fair play to whoever commissioned it, they obviously love it. Good for them.

I love it, it looks like a hot wheels creation. Personally I think super cars should be shouty although I know that's not a popular view.

they have pictures of the interior on FerrariChat-it's a bit disappointing in that it's pretty much standard spec F12 in black.

also, the rumour on there is that the car is actually a highbrid with the tech from the LaFerrari thrown at it too, any comments on this PH?

Christ I'd forgotten just how stunning that is. Cost was the reason it didn't get built, there wasn't actually much of it was an XK, the floorpan had been shortened by some 12", and the whole rear floor replaced with that from an S Type, because it had a better axle. The investment required for the likely tiny numbers it would have sold in didn't make it viable.

Tragic.

I'd do things a little differently in place sif it were my one off...but I still appreciate the owner's and Ferrari's bravery/foolishness in this creation
