Works best with Proxim kit as it has spectralink QOS embedded in it's firmware. Contact me through the profile if you need any info on it. I work with probably the best wireless engineer in the country. Usually flummoxes the manufacturers with his questions.

Mind you, he's a radio ham too

OK, we've got Proxim AP-600s as recommended ... but the quality is really poor.

Yesterday we set up a test system with no RF interference from anything else and they seemed happy with the quality, but to me it still sounded no better than an old analogue phone of the Victor Meldrew type. As soon as you raise your voice distortion, clipping and other nasty artifacts can be heard.

I can accept that is won't be the quality of DECt, which I can trade off against having coverage across our site, but it is basically unusable.

Compare this to the absolutely perfect voice quality using the Mitel Teleworker solution over broadband and you can see my concern. No QoS over the public Internet, routed to the DMZ on my firewall, shunted to the Teleworker server, across the firewall to the voice switch and then all the way back to another home user ...

So, in summary, where you have it working properly, what's the speech quality comparable to?

Quality at the wireless end is perfect, it's the other end that's the problem. Wireless to wireless is also poor.

I'll run this by my colleague... If I forget to pop back and look at the thread, feel free to e-mail me offline.

First question... Compression. Do you have this enabled and if so to what degree? Are all devices configured the same?

Try turning the compression down/off and compare the results.
