What else is worth considering other than an E46 M3?

Afternoon all,
I've been looking at getting an E46 M3, but I wonder what else out there is worthy of consideration. I've had a think and can't really think of anything that ticks the same boxes.
Budget is roughly 10k for something fast, comfortable, but capable of doing 50 motorway miles a day without sweating.
I had a quick look at the 350z but think I'd prefer something german. Audi never did a B6 RS4 and the B6 S4 doesn't seem so special to me. Is the AMG merc of that era any good?
Like I say, I think I've made my choice but I'm interested to see what people come up with.
Also, if anyone has a manual E46 M3 Coupe in a nice colour for sale, give me a PM.

Jaguar S Type R seems to tick all your boxes. Fast, comfortable and capable of motorway miles. With the added advantage of a V8 
It will probably not as engaging to drive as the M3 but how important is this to you? It's a 5 series rival as opposed to a 3 series competitor I guess.

There's a guy on Cliosport with one who's had it back at BMW quite a few times, one of which to replace the turbos which I'm sure was around £4k?
I was picking between an Evo and an M3, I went with the Evo as I've always wanted one. I'd love to have both tbh 
From my research I'd buy on thats just had its inspection 2 at 60,000 miles. Its a big one that can throw up huge bills (£2000+)
Ensure its had the running in service also. I wouldn't buy an M3 with a patchy history.

If you fancy going down the V8 route, try something like a CLK55 AMG. Far rarer and cooler than an M3. Mercedes know what they're doing with V8s so suffice to say they go like the proverbial sh*t off a shovel. At that budget you'd be looking at a later car too with some decent revisions and an increase in power.
