Thinking of some of the London cycling incidents too, is there more road rage in 20s than 30s?

Audi BTW.

I wonder he knew him, if he is like our local councillor I could understand it, ours lords it about looking down at everyone and generally make a nuisance of himself, until something important needs to be done and then he is no where to be seen

This is local to me, and whilst I have absolutely no sympathy for the individual who took it upon himself to punch someone else in the face for no reason, I do think the disconnect between "perception" of speeding and actual speeding is the cause of a lot of these incidents. At the weekend I had a gent in the car behind clearly upset by me driving at the speed limit on an NSL road who followed me to the supermarket and gave me an earful about it. I pointed out that it was a NSL road and his perception was possibly skewed by the fact I could accelerate significantly faster than a 1.9 diesel Ford Galaxy but he was having none of it. Luckily he either got the impression that I didn't care about his opinions on the quality of my driving, or had other people to be bothering, and therefore left before any proper confrontation started, though not before taking photographs of my car.

There's not necessarily any merit to the accusation that the individual in this case was driving too fast, and the chances of the incident having happened would have been reduced to zero if the other chap involved didn't essentially instigate a conflict by accusing someone else of doing something that he could not actually prove that they did.

Another person biting off more than they can chew.

It's not right to punch someone, but at the same time, you've just started an argument with someone you don't know.

Do you think they both suffered road rage? The guy who opened the car door to have a few words admits he was 'very insistent'

Obviously punching someone in the face is wrong but my first thought on reading that article was what kind of busybody tt flags down a car then opens their door to lecture them about appearing to go faster than they thought appropriate? If someone did that to me I would wind down the window, listen to what they said and as soon as I realised they were such a tt would tell them so then drive off (rather than getting out the car and assaulting them). There really is no point engaging with such people.

Well, perhaps next time he won't stick his nose in. If he has a problem, he can call the police.

The driver should have told the pedestrian to fk off, then driven away.

Had to laugh at this statement.

And it effects all types of people... A couple of years back I got stopped by an unmarked police car for "accelerating too fast" on a dual carriageway after having driven through roadworks at the posted 40mph... quickly made my way back up to NSL and a few moments later got the tug... No charge or anything but got told that once we were clear of the roadworks I was away "like a scolded cat"...

I just bit my tongue listened to the lecture and carried on, although I'd not actually exceeded the posted speed limit.

Let's not get too hung up on this "perception of speed disconnect" issue. Yes, that is a thing. But I also find it fairly plausible that someone nuts enough to respond to this busybody lecture by dishing out a beating was nuts enough to be driving so fast that you could tell it was gangerous just by watching.

Lets not side with the motorist just by default, as if there are no idiot motorists out there. And here we have a proven violent motorist to whom we are still giving the benefit of the doubt.

Anyhow, has it happens I go through the Rodborough quiet lanes fairly often on my bike and it has to be said that some of the locals are more than a tad keen when it comes to them thinking they can enforce the rules.

On a couple of occasions I have spotted locals sat out on deck chairs with note pads which I assume they are writing down the number plates of all the vehicles which they believe are speeding.

To be fair to the driver there is a big step up from someone shouting a few choice words at you to someone opening your car down to continue an argument. That's quite a brave move from someone who believes that "no one has the right to attack me!"

Although punching in the face is a bit much, that councillor needs voting out.

I drive a Jag and would have done the same thing. Interfering old busybody.

I followed someone through a 20 zone today (at 15-20mph) and it was extremely frustrating. 20 is simply far, far too slow. It's easy to see how this could have happened. No, it isn't right, but it is perfectly understandable.

Simon.
