We've all seen plenty of base models with high end badges on them... Very sad and I think there is a thread about them somewhere on here.

But tonight on the M25 I saw:
An e46 3 series BMW
Low engine spec with the single exhaust - pretty sure that makes it a 318i
SE spec bumpers
Big after market wheels - I reckon 18s, but the offset was all wrong, as was the ride-height
And the badge said...
...wait for it......RS4!

Was on my own so couldn't get a pic I'm afraid - but what a wally on so many different levels!

Is that a problem to you?

Seems to me that although there's a lot of pub talk about M3 this and M5 that, most of the cars sold are far more mainstream.

Was that the most exciting thing that happened in your life today?

If so you've beaten me; the most I came to strong emotion was the frustration caused by mistakenly ordering decaffeinated black coffee from a vending machine.

That would make me far more irate than a misbadged car - decaffeinated coffee is the work of the devil.

I saw a brown vectra that was brandishing an RS badge yesterday, what added to my mild amusement was that they hadn't been bothered to remove the 1.9 cdti badge, iirc it was an '04 plate so perhaps before Vauxhall started using VXR?

318i a problem for me? Nope, just painting a picture. But I was given one as a hire car once back in the 90s and I thought it a horrid little engine in what was otherwise a nice car.

And yes, I'm sure the stats will confirm your observation that there are less M3s and M5s sold than more mainstream models. Clearly you have your wits about you..

Decaffeinated coffee is simply hot brown.

You can buy ointment for that. In fact they sell it in Tesco, saves any embarrassment having to ask for it in the chemist.

Yes, but which would you rather be driving, if you could afford either?

Similar thing happened to me. Saw an old Escort a few weeks ago with a Cosworth badge on the back. The bloke had even grafted a big whale tail spoiler on the back and installed leather seats in a pathetic attempt to make it look like a Cossie Sierra. He even tried telling me it was four wheel drive. smile

Did the reg begin DV51 *** ? If so, that car has an RS4 engine, running gear and all the relevant bits and pieces. It's basically an RS4 in an E46 shell. The big wheels are to fit over the calipers. Bit of a sleeper.
