A3 Diverter Valve
Discussion
Can somebody please explain to me the difference (and compatibility with regards to a 2006 A3 TFSI 2.0) between a Dump Valve, a Diverter Valve and a Blow Off Valve?
I really can't find any clear indication of what's compatible with what, most things I've found regarding like a forge008 kit is to do with S3's.

Unless your going balls out mental 500bhp then you don't have to worry the standard one is grand.
Save your money for an APR remap
The 2.0tfsi has a recycling dump/ diverter valve.
It is an anti surge device which diverts (dumps) charge air when the throttle plate is closed back into the compressor inlet.. To prevent the charge air (at positve pressure) heading back through the compressor. Causing stall/surge aka that wooffling noise you hear when the dv is broken.

Thanks for clearing that up mate. You reckon that APR remap is best? Just interested as to why you mentioned that one, I've just checked and they quote +45bhp but I've seen others at +55/+60bhp?Save your money for an APR remap

I know people in the tuning trade and swear by APR. Its not just about peak figures but the whole curve.. The quality and r and d that goes into the software is excellent. Also if you decide to go further upgrade to stage 2 software is free. 2.0 is a tremendous engine. Depending on the engine code depends on what you get. Turbos and injectors etc vary from vehicle to vehicle, ie golf gti is different to a leon cupra r etc. I know of a stage 2 cupra r running 380bhp
Heard scary stories of other tuners famous for VW tuning. And witnessed a famous BMW tuners efforts on an e90 M3 where it lost power. APR though seem consistently good.

Blow-off valve = generic term for all dump and diverter valves.
Dump valve = also a generic term, but usually refers to an atmospheric valve; dumps excess boost into the atmosphere.
Diverter valve = dumps excess boost back into the intake system upstream of the turbocharger.
Don't use an atmospheric valve on a TFSI engine unless you've converted it to run a MAP sensor instead of MAF or otherwise modified the fuelling map to accommodate for it, as it will probably end up over-fuelling to accommodate for air that should be in the system which is now outside of it.
Stick with the standard stuff, it seems to work fine even in big power applications. Revision D is fit-and-forget but some people claim it leaks up to 3psi of boost. Revision G will fail after time but apparently doesn't leak boost.
I'd personally avoid the generic vendor chips and get a custom rolling-road map with someone like Nikkia at R-Tech. About the same price if not slightly cheaper and he does proper diagnostics, tailors the map to your particular engine and is a wealth of expert knowledge. That's where I'm taking mine when I get it remapped.

Revision D is pants as well
You've posted this twice now in different threads. There's hardly a consensus on the matter; not everyone seems to share your belief that the Revision D always leaks boost. Some do, or at least have, but there seem to be far more people who run the revised piston type valve who haven't lost out.ManOpener said:

Okay.Replaced a new D valve with a G in a friends car and he reports it drives better.
Rtech have done a lot of testing on it and recommend a G valve
G valves have been tested and work better in every deployment even better than the GFB+ supposedly uprated one.
So I will post it as often as necessary until people understand that the G valves are a better purchase. They do not leak from factory unlike the D valves which DO. You replace your knackered revision B with a new D and you get a massive improvement, but you're still 1-2psi down over a G..
It makes no odds to me. I have a G in mine. If people want to buy a D valve then that is up to them and I don't really care as long as they're happy!

Niki at R-Tech did back to back testing on a old D and brand new G on a APR Stage2+ LCR a few months ago and found no difference at all....
I replaced my 2 year old D with a G just because I wanted to.
