To cut the long story short i bought an 1998 e320 petrol with 143k

Problem: misfire on revving & on kick down there is a large hesitation & lack of power. There is no warning lights and my mechanics computer wont connect to the car because its saying there's a can-bus management problem

When it first happened i saw tons of blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust which then stopped and it had a horrible sulfur smell to it.

It wont go above 3000 rpm either. Gears change perfectly. Exhaust is now clear and there's no smoke

I noticed the transmission area (above cats) was getting hot after revving on idle. Could this be the catalytic converters?

Your help is much appreciated

When was the last time the spark plugs were changed?
When was the last time the HT leads/ign coils were changed?
Does it happen when it's warm or when it's cold or both?
What condition is the oil in?

Does the gearbox feel okay, kick down okay and change smoothly?

Not sure when the plugs were done or the leads. oils clean, gearbox is great, misfires on revving or kickdown

The first thing I would do is change the plugs. had the same problem recently (even though garage so say serviced it but hey!) and mullered plugs caused a misfire, and also needed the ignition coils replaced (different car)

Get some new sparkies in it, then try.

Just an update

Had my mechanic disconnect and reconnect all the coils however the engine tone changed on all of them-he is going to replace all the plugs on saturday & swap a 1 new coil around the engine however my main concern is how he connect the car to his snap on computer yet it came up with: cancommunication disturbed: engine management & the same again however it came up with instrument cluster

Just another update on the car. all plugs were changed along with the leads. The misfire is occurring from the left hand side of the engine if your looking at the front of the car. its still there.

Could it be a blocked cat? This cars doing my head in

These dont rev above 3 k in neutral to protect the autobox. Is it an m112 v6? Check for a stretched camchain or worn tensioner that can cause what you are describing.
