Feel guilty as stuck up a fly trap in the garden and it has caught lots of them, I was only expecting 5 ish a day but have an inch thick layer of drowned flies and counting.

The flies caught are smaller ones due to entrance size- which I find are the ones that come in your house and stay there as opposed to the larger ones that only pop in.

Trap is disposable and supposed to last for 12 weeks and it has been only been a week, should I take it down? concerned that I maybe selfishly upsetting the eco system.

Why would you want to catch flies out in the open?

You haven't told us the downside of your fly based genocide are you now over run by spiders?

Nope, and don't mind spiders. Just worried Im upsetting some eco balance and all the bees everywhere will die and we will all need to go around with a paint brush to pollinate biggrin

Can post a pic of trap, but don't want anyone eating their dinner to lose appetite!

Surely placing a fly trap outside is like plugging in a dehumidifier outside, utterly pointless!
Lets see the pics though...

Will do pics tomorrow morning, so breakfast/brunch people be warned a thick layer of dead flies isn't pretty.

The point of it is that a fly passing nearby will instead of being attracted into kitchen, be lured by the trap.

Why not place the trap inside?

It'll be more effective, killing only invading flies and saving the innocent!

Think about it -- what market, food shop or restaurant places fly killers outside?

I have a completely different problem - spiders. They come in all sizes but it's the tiny ones that are annoying as they can sometimes cause a horrible itch.

Ordered some anti spider spray but wondering if anyone have some tips.

Because is is designed for outside use and you really don't want in inside!

Yes, house has been free of flies. Only the odd big one which pops in and out, but none of the smaller ones that hang around

Post the pics, they are integral to the thread.
Not been up close to the trap since I have put it up, only glanced from afar.

Today I did, and now it is going to be triple bagged with waterproof gloves on and chucked in bin tonight as found it disgusting. It had lots of flies crawling inside with many more hovering outside waiting to go in. Just waiting until it gets darker and activity dies down.

In pic below, all the activity up top and along sides is active flies, and the layer of black are dead flies hurl On the plus side, I have single handedly brought down this years population in my neighbourhood. spin

Nope not in my garden and all nearby neighbours have well kept properties. I don't live in Bournemouth either... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2670621/El...

The trap was placed in direct sunlight and its been hot, so assuming the liquid gets warm and can be sensed by the flies from a decent radius.
