Looking at getting the Sony SW2. I know the Galaxy Gear is the best but you need a Samsung phone for that to work so from reading up on them the SW2 seems the second best.
The pebble is the most popular but looks cheap and nasty and isn't touch-screen.

I'd wait for the Motorola Moto 360 before deciding. It's looks much more like a normal watch but connects with your phone. Being showcased at the Google Technology Conference today and tomorrow - due out this summer, probably around the £200 mark.

Is that a touch screen? (that is what I'm after)

Yes, plus it has voice control (for those not bothered about being seen talking to their watch wobble )

Much as I hate to admit it, that Moto360 looks quite good.

I see the end of mechanical watches (for the second time smile ).

The Moto isn't coming to the UK until late this year or early next from what I heard.
Late summer release for the US.

I don't think the Smart Watch will overtake the traditional watch. Nothing beats having a beautiful and mechanical time-piece on your wrist.

The new GoogleWear devices look quite neat - full integration with Android-L devices with their new Material Design: http://www.google.com/design

Personally I'd always wear a mechanical device...

If you could leave your phone at home whilst down the pub or snowboarding I could see the point in a smart watch, but I really don't see what the benefit is when the phone and watch are never more than 2ft apart. Can someone explain it to an old luddite?

You don't really need it. You don't need a lot of things really, just a want. Useful if I'm playing loud music and my watch vibrates to say i have a phone call or something. It is just a pointless 1st world want that I don't really need. Bit like cruise control, heated seats and air con.

Air con and to a lesser extent cruise control and heated seats are pretty useful though. A remote control (which is all a smart watch is) for an ultra portable device which we all keep about our person anyway just seems pointless. I like shiny new gadgets as much as the next man but I just don't get the smart watch thing. I'd love one that was linked to my mobile contact that could be used independently though.

Anyhoo, I'm not really helping, That Moto360 looks OK at least smile
