Clio 1.2TCE Brake discs & pads replacement after 13k?

Hoping that somebody can give me a bit of advice regarding my issue here.

I have a 2009 Clio 1.2TCE that has 39k miles on the clock, I've owned it since it was a year old.

I had a replacement set of front brake discs and pads done at Halfords Autocentre 18 months ago at 26k miles, car was 3 year olds at the time. It also came with some "brake pads for life" guarantee.

I've just come up to have the car MOT'd with a local independent garage who have told me both the front discs and pads need replacing on the car in order to pass its MOT as there is a braking imbalance. I've seen the discs on the car and agree that they are worn out already and do need replacing.
However, I am baffled as to how this is the case - the pads I can understand but the discs were only replaced 18 months ago and the car has only done 13k miles since then. I would have expected at least double the mileage out of a set of discs?

The car has been driven on a mix of light motorway , countryside and town driving averaging 8k miles a year and has been used daily.

Should I be asking Halfords to replace the discs under warranty and also the pads as they are under the "brakes for life" guarantee? Could they have been fitted incorrectly? I'm just shocked as to how they have worn out so quickly - could they be crap quality or defective? Or is it now the norm to change your pads and discs every 12k miles?!?

I'd be grateful for your opinions, cheers.

Poor fitting or poor quality parts I imagine - ties in nicely with the fact you'd need to buy new discs to get the pads replaced for free...

There's your problem.

Get them swapped, ask for the old ones back and argue the toss then, but I doubt you'll get anything back.

When my car needed work done from the AA they offered to go through an Autocentre and I said no because I wasn't happy with the job that they would do.

Put it down to experience and never give them a penny of yours again, fine a good independent garage and stay with them.

We have had to get discs replaced free from one of our suppliers due to them not lasting a few months, and that has been on a handful of customers cars. Maybe the cheapies Halfords are using are from the same Manufacturer.

I'd expect 40-50k minimum from a set of discs on a manual car. Maybe less if *all* your mileage is stop start town driving but still 13k is poor.

As an example I fitted a set to my Mondeo Estate way back in 2009, they were still fine in 2013 when I sold it (and were on the same pads), approximately 55k covered in that time ...

They used poor quality pattern parts. Get some better quality items fitted and use someone better than Halfords.
