hello all, first post here....

I want a new car, I'm after something smallish and fast. Ideally fwd or awd.

currently i'm thinking Megane RS 250

what else should I be looking at?

I do a 100mile motorway trip twice a week and a very short commute (less than 10mins)

I dont need to cart any kids around and OH dont care what I get as long as there are 2 front seats and a bit of space in the back for shopping bag

current budget is ~10k could go more for the right thing.

I'd probably say the Clio 200, probably a little more fun and chuckable than the Megane 250, cheaper to buy and run and the last of the 2.0 N/A RS Clio's so bound to retain its value better than the Megane!

Go and test drive a few is my best advice.

The fiesta definitely has a lot of strong points, quite a few remaps and performance parts already available if you want some extra zing.

Mountune warranty friendly also.

An Impreza WRX is really not a big car, I'd guess its at least narrower than a Megane 250 but I could be wrong...

That was my first thought to. The current 5 door Megane is about the same size if not bigger.

Good point on the wrx, I was thinking of a saloon as my friend had an auto import (needed auto as he's disabled and couldnt use manual).

Megane I was looking at was a 3-door.

Yeah going out this weekend. Want to try and at least narrow it down so I'm not in headless chicken mode lol

Within your £10k budget, I'd probably have a look at a Golf Mk5 R32; with DSG.

If you fancy stretching a bit, you could get a reasonable V6 Clio; although they sacrifice some of the luxury.
