Euro trip car

HI,

I'm looking for a car to do some euro trips in, the trips will last 7-10 days and cover roughly 100-200 miles a day once into europe. Hopefully i'll be doing 3-4 trips a year if all goes well. All recreational.

The car would then be used as a second car when back in the uk.

What car/s would you recommend for up to £5k?

Something with working aircon, plenty of boot space to put your beer/wine souvenirs in and preferably a diesel as it's a lot cheaper over here.

I went for a manual diesel E39.

If it will be a second car a fabia VRS with the 1.9 PD engine? They tune pretty well, are cheap to run and has air con making it good for long motorway runs.

I started a similar thread last year and ignored all the advice and bought an MR2 Roadster.

My advice would not be to buy a car with no boot, but a mk3 MX-5 should be available in budget and would be my choice (based on having a mk3.5 for 2 years.

Cos if it's used regularly to go to europe you can fill up for a 2/3rds of the price and you don't have to keep stopping every 300 miles to fill up.

Plus you can sleep in an estate car. Then fill the back up with booze.

Depends what sort of trip the OP is doing. If it's motorways then a diesel car is ideal as they're no fun to drive on in any case.

Obviously if the OP is going to some nice roads then something else might be more appropriate.
