Hello,

I took delivery of a brand new C63 AMG on 1st May. Its a fairly standard car with only the 19" Multi-spoke alloys and HK sound options. My last car was a Porsche Cayman S (987c). Overall, I am really pleased with the car but there are a few things that niggle about it.

What I love:

- The obvious: The noise!
- The speed
- The relatively stealthy look (mine is black)
- The seats. I loved the sports seats in my Porsche but these are much better (except the height - see below)
- The COMAND system. I think its really quite good, I even like the sat nav system which is a first for an inbuilt product. I've always felt that OEM sat nav systems were a long way behind the offerings from Tomtom but this one is good.
- The gearbox in all three automatic modes (C, S & S+). I would have chosen a manual if it was an option but the 7-spd gearbox works well for everyday driving.
- The attention it gets. I think because it doesn't look like a supercar, the only attention it gets is from petrolheads who know that it is a special motor car. I've had people dangling out of car windows urging me to rev it and I've had lots of car worship from the Eastern Europeans who I get to clean it while I'm at the gym.
- The smile it gives me every time I drive it

What I find frustrating:

- The obvious: Fuel consumption.
- The boot. It has a quality feel to it when I click the key fob button to open it but it feels really flimsy when I slam it shut.
- The seat height. I love the support of the seats but I wish I could get the whole seat lowered a bit. I feel like I am sitting on the car rather than in it.
- The entry. I have already damaged the side bolster on the drivers seat. I have now set the third memory setting to move the seat and steering wheel as far apart from each other as possible to avoid causing more damage. It wor ks but its a faff every time I get in and out.
- The lack of a USB port in the slide-back storage compartment in the centre console (where I always put my phone). Its not a very neat solution to have wires coming out of the larger storage compartment slightly to its rear.
- The gearbox in Manual mode. When pressing on, I find it frustrating when it won't change down when I ask it to. I've not experienced the overheating issue yet but I have noticed that the temperatures go up very quickly.
- One wheel spin. The car should come as standard with an LSD. This is probably my biggest and only serious disappointment with it.
- The missus. She likes taking the damn keys and driving it herself!

The things I love about it far outweigh the things that I find frustrating. Its a superb car and I'm really pleased that I chose it.

I'm looking forward to many happy miles in it. smile

I'm sure you mean the range is frustrating rather than the fuel consumption itself!

No, I mean the Fuel Consumption is frustrating. £80 to do 140 miles frustrates me

The range will increase, on average I've got 18.3 mpg and I usually get 180-220 miles. On the motorway I can get 280-340. It should have an 80 litre tank.

You'll get used to the gearbox, I use M all the time and don't tend to get frustrated, it's not a DSG / DCT though so won't respond well to double clicks for two gears, try to do sequentially.

Make sure your steering wheel is set to raise when you turn off the ignition for getting out and raise when opening the door to get in which really helps entry, failing that lose some timber ;-)

Get yourself a Quaife LSD from Birds Auto. Oh, and a Eurocharged Remap obviously. Then you'll be happy.

I looked at the C63 recently but found the interior quite dated compared to the competition. I suppose it is an old car and the new shape C class has been launched now. How do you find it? I loved the engine but the interior was very outdated compared to Bmw's M3 / M4 and Audi Rs4

As the M3 and M4 is just being released, that isn't really a surprise. The FL model is a comfortable place to be, not sure what else you'd want really.

I sat in the new M3 today and although it is nice, I still love my interior. Only let down by the COMAND.

I've got 2 tone porcelain / black seats which I think really lift the interior. Pre 2011 interiors are very naff looking (had it in my C350).
