'Run-Around' Recommendations

We need to get a small car for around town driving (think Fiat 500, VW Up!, etc.). It will primarily be used by the other half as the truck's just too big for her. Something cheap to insure, tax and run. Budget is around £1,500 and obviously we're not looking for anything too new.

Anyone have any recommendations?

FIAT Panda falls within budget and looks good value. Any of your standard superminis I guess would be fine - I've got a 206 which does the job but if it was up to me I'd be looking at a jazz - sounds like it would meet all your criteria?

Honda jazz

Honda Jazz again.
I've done 25k in one in the last 18 months.
Averaging 52.3MPG in mixed driving over that time.
Only problem has been a blown fuse.
Two of my uncles run '05 cars which should be in your budget, again barely an issue except routine servicing.

Seeing as she's unlikely to do more than 3k miles each year, fuel cost isn't quite as important as a low road tax and parts (I do my own basic servicing). Anything cheaper to tax than a Jazz for a similar budget?

That proton ticks all the boxes but gosh it's hideous inside haha! I quite like the odd exterior though. Are they any good?

I have a 2011 Jazz and really like it. Your 206 would probably leave it standing, but I like the way my drives. It's a little car for darting through town and it's great at it. It happily cruises at speeds it shouldn't and I managed to coax 65mpg out of it on a 180 mile round trip this week.

They are also super practical too.

There's all manner of little convertible cars in that price range and they'll make the trip to town a bit more fun.

Even if she wants low power fwd there are options.

My OH had one for years just general wear and tear stuff never missed a beat.

Not the Street Ka. They are terrible on fuel and have the turning circle of an ocean liner.

Not really exciting I wouldn't say, but they are nippy enough and very practical.
I think mine has around 100BHP so not woefully slow.
