HPi Check says Plate No Longer on Vehicle

I've just carried out an HPi check on a BMW I intend to buy and it's all clear apart from "According to our records, the vehicle registration number supplied by the buyer is no longer on this vehicle." I carried out the check using the (56) plate that is on the car and there are no records on the HPi report of any cherished numbers in the past.

I haven't encountered this before, initially I thought it maybe because a cherished transfer has recently taken place but as I say there are no records of any cherished plates in the past. Is this something that is likely to rectify itself in time or should I contact the DVLA to ask what is causing the problem? It's putting me off buying the car.

The plate might be cloned. It could be that the plate also appears on another car and so it looks, to the DVLA, that the plate has been transferred?

Many thanks for the reply. I never thought of that, I think I'm probably best leaving the car alone. As I say, I've never had that problem before with any Hpi checks carried out in the past.

Can you not ring the HPI company and ask?
