Classic le-mans and 14Cux
Discussion
So me and better half will be heading into the euro-tunnel at 9:35 Friday. We'll be looking out for other TVRs as we head down.
If you happen to see a Bluetooth device 14Cux then you know you're within 20m of us !
If anyone's interested in seeing the Android app (Mk1) then feel free to talk to me - we're a green Griff 500 L416 VHR and will be in Bleu Nord camping.
I'm going to rewrite the Android app so its a background data retrieval service and a foreground display app, which means if the display app is paused when it loses focus (as Android apps do) the comms and logging (when I've put it in) keeps running.

Ummmm, I'm not thick but what.......? PeteI'm going to rewrite the Android app so its a background data retrieval service and a foreground display app, which means if the display app is paused when it loses focus (as Android apps do) the comms and logging (when I've put it in) keeps running.
Alex, yes I remember now, I offered you my spare 14CUX unit on loan but you said you might break it. Having discussed this with Steve Sprint a few months ago:

I realise that this is an area I know nothing about and need to spend some time on it sometime in the future. I know what the 14CUX does, I know where it looks for it's inputs but beyond that I'm completely lost. One day when I have more time.....? Pete

I have a custom made interface that reads data from the 14cux, make sense of it and make it available over Bluetooth to an Android app.
The app is still work in progress but its coming on.
The interface supports both Bluetooth and a plug in LCD display though I'm not sure i'll ever use the display - it was an idea for a permanent display in the car. The interface does range checks on the data and polls for faults and beeps if there is an exception, so you don't nee to run the app all the time to monitor for a fault condition.
Sadly the growl clashes with classic le-mans so I can't make the growl to show any interested folk.
It has to be said, much of the hard work was done by others and made public, saving me countless hours of investigation which may or may not have been successful.

I'll post a screen shot later - I need to look at the ISCV tonight so good opportunity.
My app requires a hardware interface in the car. For the 1st one I chose a more expensive PIC with several h/w uarts to that I could run 3 interfaces at high speed. it might be I can do it with a $10 PIC but this limits the Bluetooth speed to 9600 (I think), which oughtn't to be an issue really as the data string is pretty short. However it makes flashing the programming more complicated as the 14cux needs connecting to the single h/w uart to allow the non-standard baud rate.
i'll look at some options. The h/w interface is simple, the 5v supply contains more components that the PIC as automotive power feeds can be pretty dirty.
