What did I see today? WWII fighter.

Just wondering what flew over this afternoon? It went from East to West a few miles north of Rochdale at about 1430 today. Single engine, rounded wing tips, but not as much as a Spitfire. Two guns on each wing. Not much to go on I know.

Could be, wings look about right. Is that a Hurricane?

Whats the name of that airfield in north east kent thats just been sold, that has a museum next to it with I think a hurricane with rounded wings and a spitfire with cut off ends.

KHZ is the spitfire Mk XVI with the square ends ( see the spitfire hall 360)

Thanks, it was pleasing sight and sound on a grey Saturday afternoon. We seem quite lucky where I live. Only been in the house a year and a half and had a Lancaster, two Apache in convoy, a Chinook and now the Hurricane. Not bad considering there a no airbases in this neck of the woods.

Came over our house Lancaster and two small planes in convoy.Sat/Afternoon East Riding of Yorkshire.Enjoyed the noise.>;)

Spitfire and a Hurricane were doing the rounds yesterday around West Yorkshire, flew over a few local gala events including Holmfirth where i spotted them. Also spotted 8 red arrows flying directly over Holmfirth at around 6pm, suspect they were doing a recy for a TDF pass-over next weekend?

Slight thread hijack , sorry OP, but I'm sure Eric and the guys can help me.

3 aircraft flew over my house on Sat, 2 were identical, biplanes, raf markings on underneath of wings, bottom wing was lot smaller, they were going really really slow, ww1 perhaps.

Following at approx 300yds behind was a standard light aircraft, all red in colour.

Would love to know more about the biplanes, I'm about 15 mins flying south of Duxford if that helps.

Were they single engined..?

The TFC Gladiator was flying at the weekend as it was displaying with the Shuttleworth Gladiator as a pairs display, but unlikely they both would have come back from OW to the location described....?

If they were both silver biplanes then it could have been both Gladiators on a air-to-air photo sortie after the OW show (hence the red GA aircraft following)

That was my first thought, but I couldn't find any evidence that they were flying at the weekend.

The other reason I asked about single engine or twin is that the Rapides fly out of Duxford a lot and they are biplanes with a much smaller lower wing.
