First car decisions

I currently own a 1.4 honda civic sport I am in the middle of my driving lessons and I am unsure if to get something else.
I narrowed it down to:
Peugeot 106 quicksilver 1.4 8v
I think there smart, a good little car but he crash rating puts me off lots as there tin cans (brother had one)
Toyota yaris t-sport 1.5 16v (I think)
I do like the yaris, it's fairly nippy but I don't like the interior in some and it puts me off.
Honda civic 1.4 16v 1999
I do like these cars specially when there lowered and some rims and the mods list is endless nothing you can't change, but something and I don't know what it is makes me think get something else as I do currently own one.
Volkswagen polo 6n2 the 100bhp model.
I like the polo inside and out, the dash looks like today's cars it really is quality as with all Volkswagens but I don't want a car to common as 4 of my mates have his car so it will be me the odd one out with my civic
Any new ideas?
Or what one should I get?

Used to have a saxo vtr 1.6 8v when I was 18 , loved it and hated it at the time , going from real learner cars ( 1.0 polo / 1.3 fiesta pushrod ) it felt like a rocket and handled too. Small light car and fairly big engine = fun. But it soon taught me that the biggest thing to put me off a car is when it does not work. Had lots of niggles and faults and I would be worried anything you might buy would be full of them by now. ( Airbag Problems , Gearbox problems , the throttle cable jammed open , remote locking occasionally went haywire)
Few years later and a few cars later ( MG ZS , WRX Impreza, BMW 1 Series) Found myself needing to sell the 1 series to go towards a house deposit so I bought a 1.4 16v 100hp Fabia. It went well enough and I didn't get the stick for having it that I thought I would! But it was plagued with the poorly piston rings that I learned they were quite prone too. So watch out if you do get one.
Think the 1.4 Civic should be kept for a year really , get that no claims under your belt and save for a quicker / more drivers car.
I would have been pleased with a 1400 as my first!

My first car was a 6N2 Polo and it was great, apart from the fact that I shouldn't have bought the thing 'cos it was knackered. If you look at one take it on a test drive long enough for it to get it up to temp (which I didn't do 
). They can have a lot of problems with oil pressure/pumps when they've got a few miles on them. The dashboard oil warning light should come on if there are any problems. At the worst you will get a misfire (neither of these happened when I test drove it first, these problems appeared later on) as the bores will have been worn from lack of oil and oil gets into combustion chamber. Other than that the build quality is great, ride is smooth and handles well. The stock stereo is also pretty decent. Hopefully you find one that was better looked after than mine.
