Bonjour all,

Quick response needed:

Just had a diff put in with new CW&P, but I've been finding oil ON (not in) the exhaust - thought it was nothing more then leaking condensation + road grim + soot - turns out the diff has been spurting oil - potentially not out the breather (apparently they're on the rear right of the diff) and that seems pretty clean, but on the top edge of the diff its like a pool of fluid, which has also shot on to the underside of the body.

Should there be any pins in the top of the diff to stop this? how do I replace the lost fluid?

Does this picture help:

Thanks,
James

All the top holes should be blanked off, as they are not used on a TVR.

do the top holes go directly into the diff?

can they be used to refill the diff of lost oil?

Thanks,
J

They are open into the differential and as such I suppose could be used to top up...I normally use set bolts with copper compression washers to seal them, but a set bolt and loctite would do the job.

If the breather is not big enough at high revs the oil can be forced out of the front seal too.

seals are dry - it'll be the top mounting screw holes I reckon!

OK do had a good look about, got torch and phone to take pictures, definately the mounting screw holes venting, all seals are dry, you can see the dribble marks the fluid had run off the side of the diff.

have to get this sorted tomorrow...Le Mans on Wednesday!

Don't overfill the diff either, it only takes a pint. Geoff
