What Car - 7K - no restrictions

Hi all,
Firstly, an apology as I generally don't like WhatCar threads but I wanted to test the collective advice of the PH massive. I feel I've been looking at the classifieds so long I've saturated my brain and may be missing something blindingly obvious.
I'm in the hugely fortunate position of being able to spend up to 7K (maybe slightly more in an exceptional case). This is mainly as a present to myself so I don't need to justify the purchase to anyone
. I have no requirements apart from it have a modicum of reliability. Insurance should be ok on most things, and I only do 4 or 5 thousand miles a year, maybe less as I can use work cars for longer trips.
I want something exciting and that I will enjoy owning - iconic is a word I keep using for some reason. I don't have to spend all of my budget either.
So far I've looked at:
E36 M3
E39 M5
DC2 Integra
Renaultsport Clio
Renaultsport Megane
Evo (Not convinced by these)
306 GTI6 Rallye (A mint example)
205 GTI
amongst a plethora of other things!
A friend is also trying to convince me to buy a Bentley Turbo R, although as cool as this would be I know it's certain financial ruin.
I know I'll probably not be in this lucky position again in my life before mortgages and other dull things take hold, so I want to have fun and make the most of my situation! I'm not too worried about losing a bit of money over the life of the car, but it would be great if the value of the car was sort of on the rise...
At the moment top of the list is an FD3 RX7, but feel free to suggest anything. Some cars will be a straight up no, purely a gut decision, but I would appreciate some new suggestions.

As much as I love the Gti6/Rallye (I currently have two Rallye's) I think spending 7k would be a bit OTT, unless you planned to garage it and never use it, but keep it for collection. There is a mint Gti6 I know of, for £6.5K
If you wanted one, spend £1.5k for a decent one. They work better used hard and often!

I'll chime in on the FD RX7 side. If you get a good one and look after it properly, they're phenomenal. Buy from an owners club member though, rather than chancing on eBay or import. I ran one as a daily driver and aside from the fuel consumption it was a joy to own. Everyone asking about it, kids at the side of the road pointing and staring, a real sense of occasion every time it was driven. And the combination of speed and handling, I doubt I'll ever own anything else quite as special.
Other than that, and probably equally as ruinous, some kind of 7-style kit car or a TVR would be high on my list.
