DPF and the MOT

I'm aware that removing the DPF is now illegal and that an MOT tester will check to see if it has been removed

JUst wondering how they check that the car had one in the first place if say it was on a changeover year like 2005?

Do they look for a replacement pipe or do they have other means?

If someone opened up a dpf, removed the guts and reinstalled it, would MOT tester just assume it was all OK?

Cars are still passing without DPFs.

There's been numerous threads on it on here. It's just a visual inspection

Its on a visual test atm so if its there it will pass even if it does nothing. Don't quote me on this but im lead to believe that if the tester is unsure they are allowed to phone the main dealer with the chassis plate etc and ask if it was fitted as standared this is what ive heard.
