Fiesta ST MK7 - To buy new or nearly new?
Discussion
Evening all,
Been looking into purchasing my first new/nearly new car and think I have my heart set on the Fiesta ST from all the reviews etc. Booking in for a test drive soon to see if it lives up to the hype.
But my question is to buy brand new on finance ( will be putting my car worth about 5k down ) as a deposit and spec the car how I please and get the brief feeling of being the first person to own and drive the car and all that jazz. Or to buy almost new with under 8k miles on the clock. Difference between the two prices would be about 18k for new and 15k for nearly new. Although as wont get as good a finance deal will end up paying more monthly with a car loan for the nearly new.
Any body made the same decision in the past and can tell me the pros and cons for both?

New. Drivethedeal. Less than 15k...
Next!
This ^^^, cheaper than a used one from a dealer.Next!
Options therefore are to give the trade-in to WBAC or the like or to sell privately, or to take the DTD quote to various local dealers to see if they can match it.
Incidentally even on the original example, there is no point in saving money on the upfront price to give it away in interest later. That said, if you think you'd repay quickly, you might end up paying less overall as 10% interest over six months is less than 5% over three years... I'd still go down the broker route or haggle hard with a dealer for a new one.
Have read into this a bit and I think best option is taking in a quote from DTD to the few local dealers I have to see if they can get close to the quote. Rather deal with a person face to face and use a local dealer instead of one in potentially Aberdeen. Think most dealers would rather make a deal then know I will go down the road elsewhere.
Thanks for the help though ^^

Fair enough
we bought a mini some years ago from drivethedeal and incidentally it did come from Aberdeen! Their service was brilliant tho, and have also dealt with them recently regarding a vw enquiry and was equally impressed.
Definitely worth a go with your local tho. Be appreciative of their position but equally be firm with then that if they can match their deal they will get a commitment from you that day.
Wouldn't be at all bothered about PX. WBAC it and you'll still be quids in, or sell it privately for a better return

I tried this with 3 local dealers, they all gave me a sob story
the dealer that is supplying our ST2 is less than an hour away. Re part exchanges you don't buy the car from DtD so the supplying dealer may take your car but they wont sell cheap and buy dear.Hi, I recently bought a new 14 plate Fiesta ST 3 a month ago over a 63 plate with 8000 miles on the clock.
I chose new over used because of these reasons:
- The used car was an ST2 and I wanted an ST3 (I could then choose orange with the half leather and orange recaros), so with new you choose your own spec.
- There was a dealer contribution with the new car, it was roughly £1k, no contribution with the used car.
- I was offered £10,500 px with a new car and £9,800 with the used car.
- I took my car over 2 years pcp instead of 3 or 4years for a much lower interest rate. The 2 year interest rates from Ford were lower on the new car too over the used.
- The GFV was the same with both cars at £9,600 approx. This meant that with buying a new car, after my 2 years I'd have more equity towards changing my car becuase the 14 plate would be worth more.
I paid £19.5K after the dealer contribution. The car should be worth at least £13.5k after 2 years, giving me roughly £4k deposit for my next car.
I tried 'Orangewheels', probably offer the same service as 'Drive the deal others mention, where they source a car at the same spec you want around the country and and you get your car at a discounted price. This does actually work and I'd recommend at least trying Orangewheels before buying any new car.
I didn't use them in the end because to save around £30/ month on payments from a discounted car I'd have to have traveled down to Yorkshire for my car, I live in North East scotland. The fuel cost of driving down, trading my car in then back up would have meant 4-5 months of payments before I made any saving and I really couldn't be bothered with the travelling. And I was offered only £9,400 px!
I'd recommend buying new becuase the deals on offer are too good at the moment in my opinion.

I'm in the same boat with the bigger brother (focus ST3), cheaper with DTD, currently saving some extra pennies towards the motor but I plan on using DTD as a bargaining chip with my local dealer.
Nearest I got was + £800 though it was in stock, for £800 I decided I could wait a couple of months for delivery and go with DtD.Lease one for £200pcm or under. ST-3 here for £200pcm, but 2s can be had for circa £170pcm.

You'll avoid the huge depreciation curve you're going to hit, and you can walk away after 2yrs.
Worry free motoring.

It *is* a good deal but:http://www.gateway2lease.com/z_ford_fiesta_1.6ecob...

OP *must* walk away after 2 years if he goes down the lease route, no more and no less.
If the mileage is different then the lease costs may change (whether on the basis of a pence per mile or different monthly rate).
The car must be kept mint and unmodified, which is how I like my cars but some may not.
He may find lease finance harder to get than HP (or not).
If he wants to get out of the lease early, he can't (but then he doesn't take the initial depreciation hit from buying a car and driving it off the showroom floor).
Total lease cost is something like £5k for an ST-2. I'm not completely sure that a 2-year-old ST-2 will be worth less than £9k trade-in in 2 years' time. I'm fairly sure it'll be more than that retail, so I don't think you can say that leasing amounts to beating the huge depreciation hit.
