Moving a FWD car without engine/box?

I have a Saxo in my workshop at the moment without its engine/gearbox fitted and could do to move it outside for a bit

Lead to believe it can cause damage to wheel bearings trying to move it without the driveshafts fitted - can I just refit them to the hubs and tie them up so they sit roughly where the gearbox should be in order to roll it out (a few metres) and leave it sitting for a bit?

I usually support the driveshafts with plastic waste pipe... the shafts fitting inside of the pipe.... mind you...last one I did like that was a 2cv

I had a cv joint st itself on an Octavia once. The AA man removed the cv and shaft and flat towed me for miles to a garage. No wheel bearing damage??

to roll it slowly afew meters it'll be fine. i once tow a scrap 205 1/2mile in a similar way to the scrap yard! was fine

Why not just split the drive shaft at the outer cv joint so its just a stub axle.

It'll be fine without the shafts in, just take it easy! That, or lift the whole front end up with an engine crane and move it that way.

Because it's a saxo, it can't be split like that. Unless by 'split' you mean "sawed in two"

Towing it at road speed for miles? Probably.
Pushing it outside? Nope... The driveshafts just lock the bearing together. There's not going to be much more load on them just rolling it out, than there is with it sat on the wheels.

Got it out was amazed how easy to push it was sans engine/box!
