I popped into my local Porsche dealer to look at how the costs to own over three years compare between a new and three year old Cayenne diesel. The difference on a monthly basis wasn't that great which is testament to how well they are holding their second hand values, but the dealer (Guildford) said that the platinum edition is all sold out and they are now taking orders on the facelift version that is due out later this year. No specs or pricing released yet so a returnable deposit to guarantee a spot and then decent deposit once build is scheduled. So to the title of the thread, what can I realistically expect to get as a discount if anything?

If you have an established relationship with this dealer, and have bought many cars from them, then you may get a discount, but in reality, its unlikely.

I've been using a Cayenne V8 S Diesel for the last few weeks having just come out of an X5 40d Msport. The Cayenne is better in most respects, an amazing car..get one..!

I am surprised that the monthly payments are similar on a new and 3 year old Cayenne. Are you including all of the other costs too?

Surely the depreciation on a 3 year old would be half that of a new one?

I really miss my Cayenne Turbo, and next year the C63 will be gone and I will be looking at another Cayenne.

I was going to consider the Cayenne Turbo S, but I recall the fuel consumption last time was hard to live with. There is no way I was getting 15MPG which the trip computer calculated, more like 8MPG.

I do wonder if the new Turbo is any better at all? Probably not, which is why the V8 Diesel looks like the perfect candidate.

I do have to admit I am using some sweeping man maths justification here. Assuming the same size deposit (£10k) the monthly payments on the new car are around £180 a month higher than on the three year old car. Obviously at the end of it the balloon is considerably higher on the new car and the financing cost is higher due to the loan being larger.

Ah, man maths. A tried and tested formula! biggrin

I got 5% off a new Platinum Edition built to my spec, but that was basically a run-out model. I suspect you'd be lucky to get more than a few hundred quid off a facelift MY15 diesel, given the current level of demand, and the (temporarily) depressed build numbers while they continue to focus Leipzig on Macan production.

When I was pricing these up recently, it was looking like £60K+ for a well specced Platinum Edition Diesel (too late now for this model obviously) or about £40K for a decent used one. I agree that they seem to hold their value surprisingly well, but a new one is still a lot more money. Maybe the used ones will take a bit of a hit when the facelift comes out, but that means waiting a while. The Mk1s are looking like good value now, but they are not ageing well - especially inside.

I easily get 20 - 21mpg in mine, around town, and on a run 24+ easily. Just depends on how much fun you want to have with it!!!

My sensible head on tells me that there may as you say be a drop in prices of the current model when the new one comes out, but it very much depends on how radical the changes are. There is a rumour the engine may get a power upgrade which would make the new ones very desirable

I don't think the drop in used values will be massive and will probably mainly affect the very late pre-face lift examples. I don't think it will have much effect on 3 year old cars. I certainly wouldn't hold back for that.
