Thinking about the Xbox One

Disheartened by recent GT7 news and the franchise in general, and uninspired about any upcoming PS4 exclusives, it kind of makes sense that I should go for an Xbox One. Horizon 2 looks stunning, but in the meantime I've been reading up on Forza 5. Apart from Horizon, I have owned and really loved all the previous Forza games, is 5 a massive step back or just slightly underwhelming? I completely understand the reason why it isn't as extensive as 4, new console and everything built from the ground up and all that, but has half a year of DLC changed that? It's literally the only game I want at the moment, and weather or not I go out this week and buy an Xbox or wait till Horizon 2 is the question I keep asking myself.
Also, can I play Halo 4 and the original Horizon on the new Xbox, and does anyone know of the best high street deals? Obviously a Forza 5/console bundle is ideal.

Don't think either of the new consoles are backwards compatible. There was a Halo Master Chief Collection announced recently also

Forza 5 is a lightweight and unsatisfying game. There is no doubt that it's at the pinnacle of racing game design, but it's so light on content. That has been addressed, to some extent, by a raft of paid-for DLC. So, you can have the Forza they originally intended, but only if you pay extra for it. Right...
And that still doesn't address the fact that it's missing all the great street courses of previous games like Rallye Postino and Fujimi Kaido.
Otherwise, the Xbox One is great. Forza Horizon 2 will no doubt be incredible, and the next Forza Motorsport game will hopefully be the weighty piece we all hoped this one would be. As winter approaches, so does the release of some fantastic games so it's a good time to have a console ready to go.
And that still doesn't address the fact that it's missing all the great street courses of previous games like Rallye Postino and Fujimi Kaido.

Definitely not a step back, it's a better game in the driving physics and graphics etc are concerned. Lack of content to begin with was an issue to most but they have addressed it somewhat with pack, although they cost extra :/ they should have been there in the first place for free but hey. Added 2 or 3? new tracks for free which was appreciated.
I'd say now its a quality game and one I spend a lot of time on. I believe the career mode isn't well laid out and doesn't inspire me too much to play but if you love cars and racing you'll put in hours.
A lot of moaning there but they are the issues I have, its a great game tbh would recommend if you don't mind spending extra on cars.
edit: know one is really happy with the games released now, this doesn't have enough content vs gt that has loads but all them crappy standard cars. i'd rather have a the paid forza set I think. People do a lot of moaning, you'll only ever read of criticism because people love to vent

I think that Forza 5 is great value for money. Forza 4 was 7.5-10gb, yet it still cost £40-£50.
I do agree that more tracks and more cars would be nice, but can you realistically expect a 50+GB game for £45 ?

I'm not talking about the size of the game, rather the fact that what you get is fairly crappy, and you need to pay out a load more cash just to get what the developers probably wanted to get in the first place. At least Horizon 2 should be out soon, which won't be as realistic but at least should have a bit more to see and do. I think that Forza 5 is great value for money. k all decent games out for it yet. Whilst there isn't a deluge of triple a software. I've not struggled to find games to play.
Assassins creed, forza, marvel Lego, metal gear all very good.
Ryse, need for speed, less so.
Thief, dreadful.
Titanfall - superb.
Personally, i disliked Forza 4 and the awkward system of menus etc.
The vibrating triggers on the Xbone controller are a massive leap forward in terms of 'driver' feedback in FM5. I can't imagine playing any simulator on the old 360 after experiencing the best driving game available on any console. The drivatar opponents can either be hilarious or infuriating, depending on the situation and/or your mood whilst playing the game.
My only major criticism of the game is that i don't get enough free time to play it these days (and possibly that online racing is a bit crap)
I do agree about the choice of xbone games though. Hopefully that will all change after the release of Farcry 4 and the Halo games.

Forza 5 is quite "dry" but I think that's the nature of the game itself - it is at the sim-end of driving games.
The rumble triggers are excellent - do the wheel/pedal sets have rumble pedals or some such to give you feedback on braking and wheelspin?
Watch the trailers for forza horizon 2 - some proper crazy stuff coming to the xbox one.
In terms of games - there are plenty to play - but not many triple A bombastic ones. Super time force is very cool, you also get guacamelee for free this month with Gold.

I had planned to wait until later in the year to buy a new console and I was anticipating buying a PS4 in the hope that the next gen of GT games would give PS4 the edge. Like the OP however, I'm pretty much done with waiting for Gran Turismo to come up with the goods. I've found the Forza games more engaging and while I'm not exactly thrilled with Forza 5's lack of content I think that longer term its the franchise that is most likely to give me what I want.
Originally I was going to upgrade my telly in the summer and buy a console in the autumn which is when I start thinking about gaming again (I just feel bad for sitting indoors on a warm summers evening!) Having had a look at the upcoming releases though I think that I'll make do with the telly I have and get an Xbox One now!
Far Cry 4 will be epic and I cant wait to play through GTA V again hopefully on a console that doesnt crash every 5 minutes!
Battlefield 4 is good on the 360 but I can transfer my data across to Xbox One so I can pick up from where I left off.

5 isn't a step back or underwhelming. Especially with the 3 tracks that have been released free of charge. It's brilliant and the 'drivatar' system, if you're good enough to have them on a high difficulty make the offline races much more interesting than any other Forza has managed in the past. If you're going to get one for horizon 2 anyway, may as well go out now. No back compat, but soon you'll have the new Horizon and Halo collection to play with anyway.
