The sooner we stop using signatures for credit cards the better. France has had use pin numbers for years. Banks are obviously not interested in credit card fraud.

Use of PIN numbers is over-rated, a vast percentage of users write the PIN number on the card to remember it, or use obvious numbers such as date of birth. Visa and MasterCard are trying to bring in the Smart card with chip technology but acceptance is still a long way off. The banks do take fraud seriously, but public acceptance of changes is very difficult to achieve. (BTW I currently work in the electronic financial transaction industry so the above opinion is based on some facts).

HAving worked in France for 5 years, the usage/control of cards is ridiculous. A colleague of mine ALWAYS used his wifes card and signed for lunch. Checks? in 5 years NEVER checked, not even looked at, by 2 completely different signatures and NAMES!!!!!!!
If the creditcard companies want security they#ve got to check the people who accept them first.......
