Well, it's how motorbikes first started, way back when.

I'm not convinced about the legality of it, though. Surely it becomes a 'powered vehicle' and requires type approval (or motorcycle SVA), a licence, and insurance at the very least?

I've just done a quick google, and that seems to be the general consensus. I'm not in the market for such a conversion, so I'll keep out of the discussion from here on in.

Saw these in France a few weeks ago and did a bit of digging around found the conversion kits on Ebay too. I think the Police would probably take a dim view of them given they hand out 'no insurance, no tax, no MOT' spiel to kids using mini-motos on public roads.

Also the black bracket with the yellow button mounted to the seat tube is for a child carrier....

I had a look into this a while ago - not for the one pictured but for an older variant of the same idea.

Apparently as soon as you fire the motor you require VED/insurance/MOT - and a helmet.

But whilst human powered you don't need any of these things.
