Also, I take it a car can still be driven to an MOT station if it does not have a valid MOT?

I need to add that the tax runs out after the MOT so the car won't be driven without tax, tax should not expire at any point in time, but due to travel I won't be able to MOT the car before that runs out, then I will have a few days to tax the car so can't do it via the post.

Yes, you can still purchase VED at a post office, though not every PO. You can still drive the car without a valid MOT to a pre-booked MOT test, as long as it's insured. You won't get a paper disc after September as they're being done away with. You can also tax the car over the internet.
