Got car on a 2 post ramp today, the clonking I thought was from the back of the car is more of a clanking and it's from the box, a real pain at this stage bit I'll need to get it out looks tight to pull the box without taking off the custom headers, but wondering if box is generally pulled without much trouble?

Its a bh on axle stands - but doable so it should be somewhat easier on a lift. Follow the procedure in the workshop manual to disconnect, but make sure that you unbolt the entire top plate to disconnect the gear lever. That gives you a little more room to maneuver the box. When its all undone, slide the box back and up at the rear so it goes above the manifolds. Then turn it upside down in that position, then finally forward and down to get it out.

From underneath it looks like it should come out without being turned upside down - but believe me - it won't!

PS If its the plastic bushes on the selector forks gone letting the fork rattle, do NOT replace them with bronze ones. You will end up taking the box back out 500 miles later to put plastic one on. DAMHIKIJKOK

I didn't find it that bad on axles stands.. I am a bit of a lump though, so the gearbox weight didn't really factor in..

Its not difficult, more awkward, and it would have helped to have taller axle stands!

my exhaust is large and will be a job to pull off If need be, that looked like biggest hurdle

I recently bought a tall gearbox jack and it makes life so much easier when working with 2 post lift. Wonder why I never had one before!!

biggrin

About 4 post ramp height..?

I had to do mine on a gravel drive.. Hardest bit was getting under and out from under the car!
